plus everyone knew U2 would be playing. I think your looking at the biggest crowd ever seen at the pyramid. U2 have made sure of this with the posting they put up the day before the tickets went on sale.

Yep, I think it's quite likely that they'll draw the biggest crowd ever - but it does depend on what's on elsewhere at the same time.

For example, I'm currently thinking that Jimmy Cliff will probably be headlining West Holts, but that it's likely to start later than U2 - which means I'll be able to go an catch a little of U2 to check them out briefly before Jimmy starts.

But if there's someone on before Jimmy who also appeals to me, I won't have time to do that, so won't bother to catch any of U2.

Ill be doing that for Coldplay if theres nobody else on I want to see. Shangri-La was my favourite thing about last year by a mile. The queues though, really only last and hour after the headliners finish. I reckon about 90% of people just walk through Trash City and Shangri La and then head off after one lap. So Id either go early or leave it for an hour.

Very worrying developments, I must say.

If Underworld end up being the Other Stage headliner against U2 I suspect there will be severe crowding issues at the Pyramid.

- Arguably the biggest band to have ever played Glastonbury festival (Concievably only the Stones would match them)

- Only planned appearance in the UK & Ireland this year by them

- Cancellation last year increasing the passing interest / awareness

- First festival appearance by them in decades

- Highly unlikely to ever play it again

- Coldplay are predictable returning headliners / Beyonce seems to be polarising in people = Joe Spud Muncher making one visit to the Pyramid in 2011

- Friday night crowd at Glasto has potential to be large at any rate

- Could be said to be the "last big headliner" by some until 2013

- Underworld not the same level (IMO of course!) as their peers Orbital / Chems / Prodigy. Theyre good obviously - but able to take 30 or 40K to the OS?

GF HQ would wanna take a LONG look at who they are putting up against U2. Underworld just don't make the grade I would argue.

Granted Im a big fan but dont dismiss this as the rant through "green white and orange" goggles! I have the best intentions of the festival at heart.

this is brilliant news, i'll be there watching them whenever they are playing whoever they're up against!

Would it be unusual to have two dance headliners on the other stage? (chems and underworld)

just that i cant see chemical bros not playing and their only slot is other stage headliner

There's going to be the biggest crowd ever there whoever they put against them.

The problem last year - when U2 were meant to be playing - was, I was told, that many bands just didn't want to be playing at the same time, because they knew they'd have difficulty attracting a decent crowd of their own.

Having said all of that, none of us know which day Underworld are playing. To me the Friday seems most likely - but that's based on what someone had said they knew the Other Stage headliners to be (or at least, who the fest was planning for those slots), which Underworld headlining seems to prove as wrong.

Are people overstating the whole 'U2' factor?

I appreciate they're a massive name and band but of the 40 odd people (all of different ages and gender) I know that are going only 4 have said they have intentions of going to see them. For them to get 100k as being bounded around they'd have to have 2 out of every 3 people at the festival and personally I can't see that happening.

I don't think its enough this year to put different genres on each stage to pull some people away from U2. I reckon they'll have to do a like for like on it, Arcade Fire on the Other Stage or something. Otherwise there'll be a dangerous amount of people in the Pyramid Field for the 2.
