sadly, that's well off the mark.

Yes, the hard ground didn't help in 2005, but nor did the very extreme amount of rain which was the major part of what happened that year.

The ground is clay soil, which doesn't drain well at any time. However, it drains better when the ground is dry than it does when it's wet - cos when it's already wet there's nothing to soak up new rain.

Not as off the mark as you think. Because of the clay in the soil when there are long periods of hot dry weather, like there were in 05 in the run up to the festival, the clay bakes solid and keeps the water pooled on top. Yes you don't want the soil to be saturated already, but some moisture in the soil already will actually improve the drainage. A bit like how a slightly damp tea towel actually dries plates better than a bone dry one.

yet an already damp tea towel has less capacity to absorb water than a completely dry one. The soil at Worthy Farm is no different.

All depends on the ammount of water you need it to absorb. That damp tea towel would absorb a small ammount of water quicker than the dry tea towel, but the dry tea towel would ultimately be able to absorb more water overall.

Anyway i'm taking one for the weather team tomorrow. Doing a charity cannoeing thing tomorrow with work and the predicted weather is thunder storms, followed by heavy rain and then finished off with hail

German ladies were OK last year, but not this?

To be honest, I agree with the sexism comments which is why I mix in the Boris Beckers, German Shepherds, Bavarian babes and Angela Merkels. It all started with a picture of Herr Flick, so we can do Germany without cleavage.

Here's a lovely image of a German summer:

Update from the met office (apologies if this has been posted, cant be bothered sifting through all the nonsence above):

UK Outlook for Monday 20 Jun 2011 to Wednesday 29 Jun 2011:

Generally unsettled on Monday and Tuesday with showers or longer spells of rain affecting most parts of the UK. The more persistent rain is most likely towards western areas, with eastern parts seeing some brighter and drier conditions. It will be windy at times in most areas, with a risk of gales towards the southwest of the UK. It remains changeable through the rest of the period with further showers or rain likely to affect many parts of the country. However, there should also be some drier, brighter and slightly warmer periods, these most likely in the south and southeast of the UK. Temperatures generally a little below average in western parts of Britain but nearer to average in the east and perhaps warm at times in the southeast.

Shows an improvement on yesterday's.

And let's not forget:

http://www.theweatheroutlook.com/forecast/uk/BA4

As I type this, the rain forecast is:

Wednesday: 0.9mm in total over 24 hours,

Then no rain from Thursday to Saturday,

Sunday: 1.2mm between 12 & midnight.

This is not a lot of rain at all. Brief showers here and there. i.e. a dry festival.

Here's more optimism:

I follow the weather a lot here in Ireland for watersports reasons. The nearest surf spot to Glasto is Porthcawl. MagicSeaweed is the most popular surf forecasting website around - it's predicting Sun on wednesday, & then brief showers on Thursday & Friday.

http://magicseaweed.com/Porthcawl--Surf-Report/29/detailedLongRange/uk/#forecastTable

Brief showers are NO big deal.

It's probably becuase it's a tad out of fashion these days, Benny Hill/Carry On type humour. Not that it isn't funny, I can think of many things people say in jest these days that are not funny whatsoever.

Anyway, it's just german boobs and beer for me all the way, Glastonbury sunshine bring it on!!!

What if people learn to put the images behind a spoiler?

Or make the spoiler option more easy to add.

That way you can give warning and will get the option to view

what part of blatent sexism being unacceptable are you and others finding so hard to grasp?

This is not a forum for only sex-starved adolescent boys.

If you want to w*nk go find a porn site. Just grow up and show respect for others, eh?

I remember last year even on the week of the festival it was predicted to be pretty wet after thursday i think and we didn't see one single drop of rain just blazing sun all 5 days, i wouldn't pay much attention to the predictions if i were you guys. I can't go this year (barely been able to read the forum :() as me and the missus had a nipper last October so naturally i hope it f**king mallets it down!! It'll ease my pain.

I forgot to say it always rains at every festival I go to (8). Couldn't go G last year so it was a scorcher, obviously. I took the rain to reading and titp instead.

But yeah, sorry all!

Any rain that does fall will obviously be absorbed by the scorching heat before it hits the ground, anyway.

And since when did looking at pictures of scantily-clad women entail furiously w*nking at a computer desk? They're just nice to look at and resonate hope.

Couldn't give a damn about what's viewed as sexist or not myself. I think some people are just looking for an excuse to get on their moral high horse and pretend they are society's saviours.

Summary: NFR, NFC + boobs 4ev@.

    • Having done all three, Porto is lovely, very chilled but nowhere near as exciting as Barcelona (nor as many options). Bilbao BBK has charm but again not a patch on Barcelona really.   ps and the beer was 5.50, not 5, last year 😉
    • Honest question and with the risk of getting slaughtered, do you feel people should stop the chatting on the entire field? When my group is in the front rows we surely keep the talking to a minimum and largely only about how great or bad the artist is. But surely on the main field when you are further back (lets say around the bars (200 meters from the podium) you should be able to have a conversation. If people are still annoyed about that I would recommend them moving up further.
    • I just genuinely think they don't understand technology and its felt like this since the invention of the internet.   Also see say a speech on a Monday saying we want to be a world leader in "this thing" then on a Wednesday another speech saying "this thing" is bad and needs to be banned/regulated out of existance.
    • My party again had an outstanding 4 days in Barca. We made the right call to leave the festival site early at about 10.30 on Thursday to get ourselves some excellent steaks in the city. I am with everyone that the organization should have been clearer about what is going on and also if you would like to get rid of some attendees open more exits, they sent us from gate to gate until we finally were able to get out. Biggest 'disappointment' was the beer price, a YoY increase from 5 to 6 is absolutely nuts!!! (i am living in Switzerland so me making this comment says something 🙂)   Top 10:   1. Men I Trust 2. Role Model (could have been first as well, what a great artist and great songs) 3. The XX 4. The cure (the last 90 minutes) 5. Gorillaz 6. MBV 7. Ninajirachi (another big miss of the organization, clearly on the wrong podium and wonder if Olivia's surprise set had something to do with that and they had to reschuffle late the Occident, Cupra and Port schedules) 8. NewDad 9. Big Thief 10. Annastashia      We did 3 years Barca now and for next year looking at the Porto or Bilbao festivals as an option.
    • Personally if it was me now, I would be grabbing a green camping ticket with the knowledge closer when I've refreshed that I can still choose general if I want to....you can't do the opposite!    I would say if you are happy to watch your headliners and big bands further back to be able to see who you actually plan to later then yes it is fine. Its a much difference experience to any other festival especially food wise and camping surrounds.    Once you're in the arena as well you're not going back unless you've got a gap. If I go again I'll be going with the option of not trying to push the front and enjoying further back as you actually put too much pressure on it than the time take away can forget to enjoy other acts.
