yeah you've had a few having leading roles as presenting but this is a whole different kettle of fish i think. the stations top analyist and co-commentator.

i've not heard many female commentators but the one(s) i can remember from motd have been far from impressive (as are a lot of males of course)

yet there's not a single woman i can think of that has done the role. unless i'm mistaken.

gabby logan and anyone else you care to mention are good at what they do, but it's not the same as what andy gray did. like him or not.

It seems rather odd that a media organisation - I'm talking News Corp now - which has always been very hostile to any outside over-sight or influence is suddenly sacking people left right and centre over anything which creates a fuss. Normally they'd stick it out, knowing that such things make not a jot of difference to their bottom line.

Given Ian Edmondson got sacked this afternoon, I think you're right

and given that News Corp have been going thru his emails for weeks since he was suspended in December, it seems to be a bit of a huge coincidence that Coulson resigned as Dave Moron's sidekick just last week. It seems pretty obvious that he had advance warning that things were about to blow up big.

No one believes that Coulson knew nothing about it - here's hoping that what the old bill find nails him too. Cos if he didn't know then only gets to show him as incompetent, because his job (like mine here) is to know that what is published is safely sourced.

but in terms of commentators, the ones i've heard have been far short of anything i've heard from a male. but then this is co-commentator we're talking about. i can't actually think of hearing a single co-commentator that was a lady. i wouldn't put it down to sexism, i'd put it down to that role being one where it tends to be ex pro's. least all the ones that are coming to mind are. maybe in future we'll have the likes of hope powell (only woman player i know the name of) becoming involved...

Yep, it's a job that's done by ex-pro's, but why? It's not like they deliver better words or ideas than any main commentator does as an average (there's good and bad about both the commentators and their sidekicks).

Take Jim Beglin for example. Go on, take him and get rid of him - he's awful!!

There's others who are better, but at the end of the day an ex-pro isn't able to offer anything about the play on the field that other - not ex-pros - couldn't. The only time the ex-pros do manage to give an insight is when they talk about some of the goings-on off the field.

i dunno, i just think it's a decent system we've got. journalist/media type crossed with someone with experience of the game. i'm all for female commentators if they're any good. i'm sure there would be females who can challenge the current crop but they'd need to go out and encourage it as a profession for woman to bring any decent ones about. as i say, the one i last heard on match of the day was awful. no personality or charisma or anything.
