They’ve no choice really, they need an injection of something somewhere.

Bidding an improved 50m for Torres today apparently.

That's supposedly the same as the release clause in his contract.

But I'd be surprised if they sell him before the summer, even if they get the Uruguan cheat. If Liverpool are going to successfully re-establish themselves as one of the top clubs they need him in the form he's been in since Kenny arrived.

And with a bit of luck, what Kenny is doing at the club will have Torres reconsider about leaving. According to Gerrard in one of today's papers the team is far happier in general since he arrived, so it's got to be a possibility I reckon.

surely if they've got their eyes on suarez, they can get him replaced sharpish? unless there's problems with work permit etc in that short time.

a club like liverpool need to be signing a player to come in and compliment torres though, not a player to replace him. at least dalglish is using kuyt up there with him. was hardly rocket science that one.

While Suarez looks like a sound buy for Liverpool as a decent second striker, it would be a big risk to have him in place of Torres. He might take a while to settle, and might not settle at all.

I agree with you, in that they need a player to compliment Torres - but I'm also thinking that Liverpool are probably thinking that Torres might be off in the summer, and Suarez might be suitable to replace him then once he's had a few months here to bed in.

Rumour mill saying Torres wants to leave and is asking LFC to go back and talk with Chelski.

Bum. :(

There's long been a rumour that Torres had asked his agent to find him another club, but those were indicating a move in the summer, and not now.

But of course from Torres' view a club like Chelsea might not come back in the summer, so I guess he'll try and push it thru if he's decided for certain that he's leaving.

And I'm guessing that Roman is shitting himself that Chelsea might finish outside the top four, which is why he's suddenly decided to open his wallet again.

how much is suarez going to cost? cos if you're replacing torres with him, it's potentially a huge step back if he turns to be another vorinin.(sp)

definitely need two class strikers (plus kuyt) if they're to be challenging for top 4 next year. ngog need not apply.

*rubs hands with glee*

Ace stuff this re- Torres, whether he leaves or not, the RS squirming will be ace to watch for a few days.

If the bids get up to £50+ million I think they'd be daft not to sell, the RS I've spoken to today though have both said that they'd still rather keep him, than have the £50+ million as well as whatever else is available to redevelop.

What do others without an attachment to the player/ club think? Its a tough one, I think long term they'd be better off selling though

The Football Association has set out its vision for the future of youth development after a review conducted following England's World Cup failure....

...Director of football Sir Trevor Brooking and general secretary Alex Horne have made 25 proposals with the aim of producing better young players.

The FA is hoping to start a new era in its coaching development programme, which will be based at their new St George's Park training HQ in Burton.

As well as establishing a coaches' academy network and licensing scheme, there will be significant changes to the way youth football is played, with reductions in the size of pitch, goal and teams to encourage better technical development and more ball-contact time.

The age at which youngsters are allowed to play competitive league football will be raised by three years, from Under-9 to Under-12, a proposal that the FA fears will meet resistance from many parents and coaches.
