Shitty news on Pompey but not really surprising, the minute Redknapp decided to start spunking cash up the wall on insane players wages - it was obvious it was going to happen in the future. The fact they brought in god knows how much cash by flogging a lot of players in the last couple of years and they'll still f***ed - the state of their finances must have been

Oh, I know (as far as anyone does, anyway) he's not said he'll break his contract. I think Rooney has gone at this the correct way, aside from the 'leaks' (which Rooney personally might have nothing to do with anyway).

I've said it a few times that if it was just about money he'd have signed the new contract without telling Utd his plan to leave - that's how he'd reap the most money, both out of Utd in pay, and because the transfer fee would be higher and he'd be getting a cut of it.

Revenue growth per annum under the Glazers has been £120m. Not all can attributed to them obviously (stadium expansion signed off under the PLC, growing TV etc), but still a considerable amount.

Commercial has grown from £55m in 2006 to £81.4m in the recent accounts. Whilst that's the best in England on last accounts (Liverpool £68m, Chelsea £54m, Arsenal £44m), it pales compared to Bayern Munich's £136m, Madrids 119m or Barca £96m.

Glazers will see room for growth.

Sorry to bring up Rooney again, but £250k. £160k plus £90k image rights.

Wouldn't usually go with the mirror, but the same journalist broke the story sunday night ahead of everyone and broke the possible u-turn thursday night ahead of everyone, so seems to have a good contacts.

Fergie for another 2 years aswell!

It's a feck load of cash, though I'm assuming the £90k he was on before was just the basic salary before the image rights. No idea how much he earned in them before.

With Rooney able to command a bigger salary elsewhere, it was never about the money, although the £160,000 a week, plus around £90,000 a week on top in image rights, have made him the country’s top- earning player.

As well as a mind-blowing salary, Rooney was assured by Fergie and Gill that United, despite the obvious financial handicaps imposed by the club’s ownership under the Glazers, would make available funds to sign top players next summer.

And, with an assurance that Fergie intended to stay at the helm at United for at least the next two seasons, Rooney felt his concerns had been addressed and he and his agent Paul Stretford agreed to sign a new deal.

Arsenal could have had a few more if they didn't insist on trying to walk it in every time they go forward

City looking very ordinary today although the early sending off didn't help

Cracking first goal by Hernandez today, looking like a cracking signing

I like me sport...footy, the lot... and I know its like getting the violin out again but.... eeee lad.

Watching MOTD2 just now.... Man City game.... the young lad makes a rash challenge and under the current rules... he has to go. BUT-- we dont need that french twat Fabrege running after the ref gesturing with his hand up to send the lad off.

Makes me f**kin boil.

Ive supported Hart le Pool all me life through thick and thin (well thin and thinner really!)... I`ve never seen any of that shite... wishing players to be sent off... and celebrating when they do (like today).

I put this down fairly and squarely down to the foreign players... there was none of this shite in the game 20yrs ago... then those f**kin Argie twatatas arrive at Spurs... Ardiles and Whats His Name.. Fuzzy Head.

Arnold Muehren goes to Ipswich.. then the f**kin gates open...and we get to where we are today, with Sky, and all the money issues and such media saturation.

As much as Faberge is a world class player... what would his f**kin Mam and Dad say to him?

I`d f**kin lash one of my bairns for doing that. He should be made to strap one of my dried Tablet Turdleburgers to his neck on matchdays the french twat.

Aye, oui, le bastardo...

Never really understood how people thought the Toon could be in trouble this year. Solid enough team, performances if a little erratic at times but with Barton, Carroll and Nolan all playing well you're well capable of getting into the top half of the table. No chance of relegation anyway!

How good was Bartons cross for Carrolls header on Saturday?!

    • I really like the Cheap Thrills! I saw them at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester in January at one of Chris Hawkins' "Awesome Friends" nights (which i think is why I even got tickets as it wasn't listed as a Cheap Thrills show!). Very good live and some great songs. I would've gone Saturday if I'd planned ahead!
    • They also seem to be in a mission to break the US with their new major label and this latest LP   Mid afternoon, live streamed on Disney+ is arguably a much bigger gig than Kendal Calling, if they had to skip one
    • This is massively exciting. I've been curious to who will be provide vocals for their live show and this is mega!
