He's not really. He's saying it's not productive fans chanting for Rooney to come on the minute we concede, and that it puts increased pressure on the players already on the field.

that's one way of reading it.

But the other way is that their chants weren't justified cos Rooney's a traitor.

Can tell he's massively disappointed and equally frustrated with modern day agents.

That's nothing new - it's the view of everyone aside from players with agents.

I find it funny that for years man utd have got to buy the best players from teams who didnt want to sell. The second the boot is on the other foot, it seems to be a very different thing. Why should hargreaves have left man utd when he already played for a team who regularly competed for honours. Why should berbatov and carrick leave spurs, neither needed the money. They left because man utd paid them more and man utd had a better chance of winning trophies. Man city can offer better wages than man utd and are likely to be a biiger threat for trophies in the next few years.

I would say that there are a small number of clubs in the world that many players aspire to play for regardless of money. These clubs have history, a certain glamour, a certain mystique. United, Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool (grudgingly), Juventus, Milan...maybe a few others. Given the chance to do so then most players jump at the chance.

Man City are not in that category.

I'm pretty sure players would rather go somewhere and have the chance of winning medals and looking back on their careers where they won something instead of say moving to Liverpool or Juve (both historically big clubs) where in the current state the clubs are in - there's pretty much zero chance of them seeing silverware and in Liverpools case, probably more chance of Jessica Biel knocking on my door one morning than them winning the premiership anytime soon.

Thats certainly not the opinion of United boards that i read (redcafe and therepublikofmancunia). In fact the overwhelming response is the exact opposite - full support for fergie and pure venom towards rooney.

When Utd were sweeping everything up and didn't have much of any realistic long-term UK competition, Utd fans used to say that players came to play for them cos it guaranteed them trophies.

Now that other teams are able to also guarantee trophies, those same people say it's not trophies that primarily attract players but 'history', and as a dig at the likes of Shitty, money too.

I'm not talking about 'historically big clubs'. There are far too many that could fit into that category. I'm sure you could name loads.

I'm not even talking about current big clubs. I wouldn't say Chelsea or Arsenal or even Bayern Munich have the allure that i'm on about.

I just think that certain clubs have attained a status that is in itself an attraction over and above money and the possibility of trophies.

The likes of Arsenal have an allure that attracts players that kick the ball and not other players - the sorts of players who'd be less attracted to the clubs with overly-large heads.

As for the last para .... pleeeeeaaaaaase! If the money part is true, why do such clubs *ALWAYS* need to compete on wages? If the no-trophies part is true, well .... the proof of that is going to be made clear pretty soon.

It's all made clear by the many players who've turned Utd down over the years. Yes fergie, it's happened, and quite a lot - I guess your memory is similar to Wenger's eye-sight.
