As funny as it would be, he is not on 139k a week. Nowhere near. Torres and Gerrard aren’t even on that.

However paying 18 million for him based on a good left footed volley and "some good play going forward" for Pompey was a joke.

As was the Robbie Keane deal.

As was the Aquilani deal.

Rafa made mistakes big style, both economically and errrr..... squadily. He spent 250 million (I couldn't give a bollocks about "net spend") and the club is in the relegation zone and not in the Champions League. He spent nearly the same amount in 6 years as Wenger has in 14. And won f**k all.

Also, court has confirmed that if RBS take over the club to sell it, the will “briefly” have to put Liverpool into administration and they will be docked 9 points

I'd take that with a pinch of salt tho, as Chelsea had sold him to pompey. Were they really wanting him back? It's not how things normally work.

I can't see money being made in Football whatsoever, working to the current budgets, bar at perhaps one or two clubs, Chelsea wont make it, I don't think Liverpool can make it, simply because they will need to spend 50 mil a year to get CL football and that will wipe out any profit and money for a new stadium, that could perhaps make it sustainable long term.

I think Utd (if they sort out the Glazer mess), Barcelona, Madrid (if they sort out their messes) can and I think Arsenal will due to the right investment at the right time and a wealthy fan base, could perhaps make money within whats going on at the mo, at some point though I reckon its all going to come crashing down for many, many more clubs

I'd say Liverpool can very easily make it back to the big time, as the result of the price being bandied about for them.

If Utd are worth the £1.5Bn that Glazers reckon - and while I hate to admit it, from one angle on the numbers they are (and if when the bond matures they can pay off what's owed that'll prove they are) - then there's ample scope to invest hundreds of millions in the Liverpool team and by doing so (and success off the back of it) turn them into a global brand as big as Utd (I'd go so far as to say that they have the potential to go past Utd globally).

The difference between the £300M they'll (probably) be sold for and the £800M mooted by H&G is massive (the £800M is about right with a Glazer view of things) - more than enough scope to take them back to the big times.

I think a lot of that was down to believing Rafa about Aqualani, when he turned out to be a dud.

I can remember making posts here along the same lines, but couched within "if he's all that's been said" for Aqualani. It was always obvious to me that Alonso would be a huge loss and hard to replace.

He's a player I never did work out - he showed enough flashes of brilliance for me to see why Rafa bought him, but then he was often completely shit, one of the worst players I've ever seen at a major club (tho E.D-D beats him).

Hmmmm ... you sure that was just about cash?

Cole has stated that it was about the promise of actually being played and played where he wants to play, and while I know Liverpool also made the best £££ offer, I can see that playing will have been important to him. He's a player that people expected great things of, but he's only really been an eternal sub.

if you've been reading the guardian updates, it wasn't the court that said that, it was a general comment of what legal opinion supposedly is.

I'd guess whether that happens or not is down to the exact terms for default on the loan - something which I'm not sure anyone knows (I've not seen them stated with any certainty). It was certainly the case with pompey that Chanderai took possession of the club over a defaulted debt without putting the company into admin and without even a hint of the threat of a points deduction. If the terms of default are the same in each case, then Liverpool should certainly be free of any risk of admin or points deduction.

I say they're not very good because they're not very good - but along with that they should be much much better than they are. Fabio is a long way from being anything above average as a manager, he's one dimensional, has no tactical nouse (just check last nights subs - the exact same thing as when he brought on Heskey and SWP in the WC in a must-win game), and no idea. All he has is excuses, and not even good ones.
