What about David Gray - Jazz World ?

Christ, that's a let down and a half. You're expecting one of the greatest songwriters of all time, and you end up with some slightly podgey guy from Sale.

I'm already having nightmares .... "Lady's a gents, Stevie Wonder can't be with us today .... so here's Craig David"

Both have a sound that's grown out of jazz.

Unlike David Gray, Noel Gallagher and all the other very weird suggestions that some have made for Jazzworld this year. :P

But anyway, I didn't myself go with "are they jazz, are they world?" idea, I merely suggested that a quick look at any Jazzworld line-up should tell any person with a modicum of musical knowledge that the likes of David Gray is very unlikely to be seen on that stage.

:P now I have no musical knowledge..... :P

The reason why there is a question mark in my thread title is because I couldn't see him playing the Pyramid and given he is quite mundane and that the Jazz world I think would be a good stage for him given his prominence....

Sooooooooo

What about David Gray acoustic set on the Jazz world stage...... does that better fit the ideals of the Jazz world that's lets face it are being pushed about a bit now and its not just Jazz and not strictly new world music either...

However I bow to your vast global knowledge... :P

Ever since this guy stood in for Burt Bacharach in 2000 he has been a cause of continual disappointment and occaisional hilarity for me. Got dragged (kicking and screaming) to see him in 2003 on the Pyramid and all I could do was chuckle all the way through that 'meet me on the other siiiiiiiide' song as he always sounds like a strangled cat with the 'siiiiiide' when he lets rip. Each time thast refrain came around was more hilarious than the last.

So, not for me thanks except maybe in the comedy tent.

Has anyone noticed that the Jazz World Stage has completely disappeared from the Glastonbury web site?

I'm not hugely surprised. There's been a few things which have suggested to me for a while that there's a big change happening there.

I have a feeling it's going to be called the "Jazz & Blues Stage" this year, but that's mostly just a guess.

  • 3 weeks later...

If the organisers are changing the look of the jazz world stage, I would be seriously disappointed to hear it being christened with the likes of 'Babylon'! It might (quite-rightly) provoke a protest of a few wee-filled bottles...

I'm keeping my finger's crossed that the Jazz-world stage appears back on the website, and if there are changes, I'm pretty sure the glastonbury team will come up with a line-up that's a little more imaginative. Although if it doesn't live up to the speculation, at least the farm will have a less trouble with rogue festivallers relieving themselves in the bushes - fingers crossed!
