I reckon media companies will put pressure on festivals to do this. I mean as was described in another thread the BBC help Glastonbury a lot with the exposure they bring to the bands etc so could see them wanting to be able to record festivals to the highests standard. The way it was last year the cameras at the back would see f*ck all therefore unhappy beeb.

Obviously will be decried as a boring topic but I thought the ban between TV gantry and the stage was a good idea.

Would get rid of all the people who only want to see their flag on TV and would stop buggering up the view for 20,000+ people just so half a dozen can find their friends.

Flags just aren't metal enough for Download :P

Seriously though, Flags are annoying. They look pretty on TV, but it is really just a huge attention seeking placemarker for selfish ****s so they can say to their friends "Look where I was!". Nightmare to be stuck behind one :P

I'm in two minds about this.

I find flags very very annoying when stuck behind them and it was a godsend at Leeds to be able to see the stage without having my view blocked every 5 seconds. On the other hand I think they do add somewhat to the visual aspect with all the different colours, fabrics and designs fluttering in the light

I think no flags within so many feet of the stage is the best comprimise - god know how it would be policed I have no idea

I do think they look pretty but they do obstruct the view.

I think I'd miss them if they went completely.

If they were allowed but further back wouldn't that just move the problem on to other people, i.e. the ones stood further back? (Who are probably stood further back attempting to get a better view :P )

In keeping with the point of the festival could they not just ask that no one takes any flags in front of the gantry where they will severely reduce other festival-goers' enjoyment. Ask people to self-police and if some selfish twunt decides to ignore it I would imagine the rest of the crowd might politely point it out.

there was a guy behind me who thought it was great fun waving his flag as low as he could over punters heads, which meant the flag-pole kept banging on my head.....!

now, i don't like telling people what and what not to do, but for f**ks sake... :P

Uh, am so glad I am not the only one then. Last year I kept thinkin unholy thoughts about people with flags as it just became totally rediculous, but then felt a bit guilty thinkin I am becoming too grown up about it.

Problem is though it seems, a lot of people found them annoying but nobody was saying anything to any of the Flag-**ats. I used to quite like the odd flag but like everything else it becomes a fashion statement and everybody needs one.

I can't see the problem why they cannot be 'pulled in' when the act is coming on stage.

It just seems common sense, after all it is a cooperative event and people need to look after each other.

:P

    • I read the Kerrang review and they didn’t seem overly positive. The definition of a 6 out of 10.
    • Interesting the stat guys say 3 points and -3 goal difference is where it gets to 50/50 territory in terms of going to the last 32. If Scotland lose their last 2 at best they are on -1, play like they did yesterday and they could take a heavy loss.   However thinking about it positively get 4 points from the last 2 games and the group is won! Have heard a few saying Scotland should just park the bus next 2 games, but not sure they have the players to do it. From my perspective they could really do with a decent defensive midfielder to add balance, but not sure if they have one in the squad. They also need significantly more from Mctominay who I thought was poor, but understand he has been unwell.
    • Yup and they aren't all going to get them, some are going to miss out. Speaking of this, I met someone at RIP who went to RFP and his view was band wise it's value for money but it wasn't a festival itself he'd be rushing to return to. In fairness as well he probably liked more of the headliners there than me this year whereas I was more undercard and he wasn't returning.
    • Maybe Starmer's legacy will be a war with Russia.
