Things that ur happy about

No problem here playing movies from my blu-ray through my tv speakers. Sound balance is fine. If your having problems I guess you have something set up wrong.

I might be wrong but isn't 5.1 only delivered if a 5.1 system is detected. If its just playing through a TV then the 2.0 audio should be delivered. The thing I can think of his your blu-ray player is forcing out 5.1 or maybe some setting on the Blu-Ray disks menu option.

Never had a problem with this so hopefully another poster can help you out.

EDIT: I presumed you would get a standard 2.0 track on every disk but after looking at the details of some disk it looks like some just have a 5.1 mix. So I guess its down to the player to downscale it to a 2.0 feed ?? I have a sony player. So maybe some players are better at it than others.

I nabbed a Panasonic player that i spied reduced from £60 to £30 in Asda to quench my thirst for sexy visuals. A tech whizz i am not but yes, as i understand it, the player should down mix the films from 5.1 to 2.0. Set it up in the menus but it's not playing ball. The Dark Knight films being an especial bugger. What was really annoying about The Dark Knight was flicking through the audio tracks to find a better mix and finding a perfect one. Rubbing my hands in glee, a strange womans voice started chipping in the odd bit of strange commentary. It was the audio descriptive track! For the blind i assume. Ridiculous.

Anyway, fried chicken makes me happy. Too happy.

My employer is far from sensible. This particular promo being an excellent example. It isn't based on any extra sales, rather that you get an entry into the prize draw for every unit sold. So there is some insentive to sell more because that increases your chances, but it's still down to luck. And due to the nature of the organisation, some people, through no fault of their own, will have a lot less opportunity to make the sales, some of them will realise this, and just think 'fuck it, why should I bother?

(and full days work? sometimes I'm a little embarrassed at how little work I can actually get away with. In my defence, they do pay me peanuts though, so my rate per hour actually worked probably isn't too bad)

see above

sorry to drag you into a prior argument.

I'm sure there's good and bad employers in both, none of them can get it right, but it's nice to have an employer who can try to make a job bearable.

having worked in both, I found myself exasperated with the timewasting in the private sector, tea rounds and incentives taking you away from the job, and longed to stop faffing around with irrelevancies and just be allowed to get on with the job.

The first job I had was great, you just got to finish as soon as the job was done, so you worked flat out and gave up breaks (illegal now of course) to get out of there asap. And we had free speech, so could backchat our boss without fear of repercussions!

No matter what your paper terms and conditions say, they're only worth anything if you ever actually get to benefit from them. And your daily environment is more important.

well I got a letter from a customer thanking me for how I dealt with him and that means far more to me than any employer praise, so :blum:

I'll take the Kindle thanks.

God, I'm starting to sound like barry.

But seriously, kindle fire.

(it is nice to get thanks when you know you've had a possitve impact on someone)

oh it is, and anyone who works in customer service will know that you're usually dealing with someone who's had something go wrong, so it's lovely when someone realises you're trying to sort stuff out for them :)

Though my last employer used to have a free vending machine, and productivity incentives for giving up your breaks etc., and you could win holidays and plasma TV's.

Was tossing and turning last night thinking about whether or not it was a good idea to post this on here or not, but as people have said before it's something I'm really proud of and I've been ranting on here about forming a band for years and things are finally happening. Basically we finished an E.P last night and uploaded it on BandCamp, it's absolutely free to listen to if you have the time and my only reason for posting it on here really is because I'd love to hear people on here's opinions and what you all think! Good or bad I really don't mind, but as you all know I've been a member on here for years and I'm just really happy that I've finally got round to making an E.P. This is the last you'll hear about this as I know my constant posts about my band are getting annoying but here it is if you want to have a listen:

I wouldn't worry about continuing to post on here or not, as people can simply take it or leave it. On another note, if you give up promoting yourself that easily then you may not get to where you want to go with this.

I managed to hear the first two tracks before the site crashed on me. I'll have another go at listening to the two others later. The ones I heard aren't my cup of tea, but then you'll not really be aiming at the 48 year old bloke who knows nothing about music market.

All I really wanted to say was keep plugging away on here. And anywhere else for that matter.

The 'Bastard Builders' have finally really pulled their fingers out on our house extension and are now working on site seven days a week.

Today the kitchen fitters arrived and started fitting the new Shit Kitchen Units (we've been without a kitchen since June) and it does look potentially very good.

Contracted completion day was November 18th and they should now finish the inside work on December 2nd - which is the birthday of both Mrs Grumpyhack and me. (Having a wife with by chance the same birthday as me means at least means I don't forget her birthday).

This year it should be quite a celebration.

Been looking for a song for about 10 years and had no idea who it was.

It was from Glastonbury 1998 which was broadcasted on the bbc in there acoustic tent, this afternoon I was on you tube and searched 'terry callier Glastonbury' and for some reason it came up with the song I've been searching for which was a band called sunhouse.

They only released one album, I bet it's difficult to find as it's been deleted.

A friend I've worked on and off with making games for the last 15 years has come up with a game concept that has finally got my muse working. Feels good to be back to work and inspired by something. As we are planning to develop for Android/IOS I'll be learning a new platform as well, which should be interesting.

Excellent, a good bit of news. Hope you have fun doing it and that it's rewarding on a number of levels.
