In a forum where people spout the most negative nonsense about bands they hate which adds nothing at all to the conversation, I don't find mike99 a problem whatsoever. He's a polite chap at least.

Now - where's that Muse thread? They're shit and I must let it be known....

i've never seen any partticularly personal insults thrown at him. :P

i personally think his whole schtick is quite amusing. i refuse to believe he's unable to learn how to post properly without misleading anyone when he's been told countless times what the problem with his thread-making 'style' is, therefore he does it for effect.

Fair comment is not bullying, however unpleasant those comments might be considered by some. There's a stupid idea held by some that it's wrong to tell people they're wrong (or whatever). It's not.

It is perfectly obviously that people jump on the Mike99 band wagon out of proportion to the error he commits, and are unneccessarily aggressive in the way they express themsleves.

Its what children do in the playground to misfits.

It is not a matter of simply disaggreeing with people, as several people posting on this thread understand, even if you don't

My broader point is that it is part of a trend I think has being going on for a couple of years now, and makes efestivals a much less enjoyable experience (unless of course you enjoy reading petty arguments) than it used to be.

My mistake was in assuming that you would at least be concerned by the trend.

In short, I ask for tolerance

You call be stupid

Perhaps you are part of the problem

And it might be passing you by, but he gets it - an awful lot in fact.

But tolerance does not mean that actions should be excused by all people at all points.

I'm not hugely comfortable with the amount of flack mike brings onto himself but he does bring it onto himself. The why has been explained to him countless times, and suggestions have been made to him about how he might avoid such reactions and be clearer in his communications but to no effect.

Sooner or later individuals will react to it. It's not the same individuals each time.

Does anyone remember our attempted efests reveolution of two years ago, i believe it was april of 2008. I dibbed a certain section the 'efests mafia'? Anyway, this reminds of that revolution, the same message; peace, love, rationality, and tolerance!!!

I may be missing the joke here.....but surely this Mike99 chappy is just having a laugh? When I first came across his ramblings I assumed that he was just some poster who had discovered a spoof style and was determined to flog it to death......the type who would tell you the same joke every time you saw him....and I still stand by this observation. Isn't this just playing into his hands? I know its annoying to have the same thing appear time after time but we all know who has posted before we read it. I have enjoyed all the fallout and I am sure that he has as well. Best to treat him like a naughty child....stick him on the naughty step, ignore his tantrums and then let him back to play when he can behave himself.

Mike99 is just someone having a laugh.

If you don't think so, click on his name and read through his previous posts for an hour or two.

Might I draw attention to his 'Meet Mike99 at Reading' thread as a case in point. He's not being serious folks - his only objective is to provoke a reaction.

I'm not suggesting anyone should respond nastily to him - I actually enjoy reading a lot of his faux-naive posts. However, if you do respond nastily, he won't care. So long as he's being talked about he's happy - he couldn't care less if you're being insulting.

You see, here is a great example of a vile forum member who has decided it would be wholey beneficial to call me a dick.

Dont know what they wrote before that as it was edited, but you talk about attitudes towards mike99, well some of them can be humerous, some can be said out of frustration and others are meant to insult and hurt other forum members - just-spence is a prime example of this.

As I said previously, mike99 is entitled to say what he wants and I am equally entitled to ignore him. However we all have to face up to the fact that there are good and bad people in this community and its the bad ones that chose to 'name call' that really bring the forum down.

I would rather have more mike99 topics than have to read the disrespectful gutter mouthed posts some people write about other members.

The golden rule seems to be:- if you cant be helpful be humorous, if you cant be either of those just be nasty.

just-spence, your IQ and bad karma is duly noted.

I guess a stupid idea could be held by brainy people, but I think you're quibbling a tad.

Do you think that the smarter people (whoever they might be) only have smart ideas? :P:P:P:P

Stupid ideas can be held by anyone.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
    • Shambles. Transport and comms garbage. Been looking forward to this since last June and have never been to a more disorganised festival in 30+ years.  Why we were told the whole festival was cancelled for the night if they had put back shows for a few hours?  Pissed off to say the very least and put a huge downer on the rest of the weekend.
