Jesus U2 would then move from the meh list, to the only Pyramid headliner I'm likely to even contemplate seeing.

I really need the stones to play this year, i can't count on a classic glasto highlight like roger mcguinn or something like last year what i didn't expect, i already had shakey, the boss and CSN, so i was set, but this year none of the likley rumours have got me excited at all.

I mean, i think by booking u2 for friday, the "biggest band in the world" thats surely very ominous for the saturday headliner, saturdays being traditionally bigger than friday, ie - shakey last year, but then springsteen being the most electrifying performer in the world to 'just' top it.

I'm pretty sure that the plan was the Stones, but it seems very very likely that the Stones have blown them out.

It's hugely unlikely that the Stones would do a one-off show, and even less likely they'd do that show for worldwide TV broadcast (which is what they'd have been asked to do).

much like U2, they're very precious about how their shows might come across (I very much doubt U2 would be playing this year if they weren't already in the middle of a tour). Various stones nutters have told me that they simply wouldn't consider doing Glastonbury outside of a tour, and their past dates certainly suggest that's true.

eFestivals specifically asked their press people if the statement they put out about not touring this year included within it them playing festivals, and we were told that it does. I very much doubt their press people would have explicitly answered our question if there was still the possibility of shows this year, they'd have instead said that all they knew was contained within that statement.
