I've had a thought - how about Jet playing underneath U2? A nice hour or so of uncomplicated, upbeat rock to get the crowd up?

They've got a new album out, with a European tour to follow next year. Surely Jet would be a good bet to play Glasto at some point in the proceedings? Get 'em booked, Michael!!

I've never seen U2 live.... very deliberately, cos they haven't recorded a good tune for 20+ years IMO.

But even so, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it far more than I did the smidgen of Bruce that made me run away very fast - I don't think anything could be as middle of the road and bland as Bruce was.

I'll probably go check them out, providing there's not something I want to see elsewhere.

Have to agree with Neal

Boy is still a great debut album, full of wide eyed teenage innocence, October has its moments, Unforgettable Fire is superb & then the brilliant Joshua Tree.

Jaysus, I think a lot of people are confusing 'a band they don't like' with 'a band that shouldn't headline'.

I'm not a big U2 fan, when I saw them live in 2005 it made me like them less, but I think they're a great booking and a huge coup for Glastonbury, and the festival's bigger than any headliner. I'll be elsewhere, as should all the moaners, but it's still an achievement

Cabstar> you missed out the 'WAR' album.

I agree Joshua Tree was U2 at their peak when they played Wembley Stadium for the very first time and I saw them at 2 or more of their shows. That was the point when U2 became a "Stadium" band and conquered America etc.

I had already seen them half a dozen times or more, but that summer seeing U2 at their peak with a huge group of friends was very special. I agree with you it was an awesome show :P

But they have been just as good many times since then IMO.

War indeed is their classic underappreciated album. great from beginning to end. 'surrender', '2 hearts beat as one', 'the refugee', 'Seconds' - just brilliant

i too was at Wembley Stadium June 87...went first show, the friday. w/ pretenders/world party/spear of destiny. brilliant day.

After intially being very much in the "oh ffs" camp having spoken with my mate at work and realising how many of their songs I do actually like I am quite looking forward to them.

Considering I am never going to go watch them alone and it'd cost somewhere upwards of £70 for a ticket anyway I am definitely going.

Anyways the songs I am looking forward too and they better damn play them...

(Blur: I will never forgive for not playing Charmless Man!!)

I was on hoiday when I first heared the U2 confirmation on tv news. I'm very, very happy with U2 as headliners as I've always liked them and they are without a doubt one of the best live acts in the world, however, as I don't yet have a ticket I'm also vaguely gutted! For the record , can I just say that I don't have any problem with Bono's politicising on stage - I don't care how rich he and the band are or how much diesel their trucks use - if I had an audience like he has I'd use the stage to throw a few harpoons at the evil bastards who rule our world, teach us how to hate and how to exploit each other. Good on him I say.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
