Is it possible to have an amazing Glasto even if it rains all weekend?

I had the most amazing first time at Glastonbury this year, I was completely amazed at how amazing it was bu i did wonder if it was constant rain, could you even come close to having that sort of experience.

AND is it possible for us to have two glorious sunshine years in a row (minus the thursday and sunday night?!)

Absolutely! I had a great time in 2007 where it rained constantly.

It didnt rain constantly in 07, just lashed it down for a lot of it...

1998...THEN you are talking and that was f**king brilliant!!! Just make sure you are camped near a main stage so you can hear a lot of the goings on and then you dont necassarily have to leave your tent and can enjoy the fest while staying dry.

BUT there is no such thing as bad weather at Glastonbury...just bad preparation and clothing choices!

It's certainly possible to have just a good a time but it IS harder work, and a lot depends on your preparation, if you have the right gear and stay warm and dry it makes a massive difference, being wet and cold for 5 days will kill your festival experience as many found in 2007.

2007 is still my favourite Glastonbury! Yes it was wet, it was muddy and I didn't see a lot of bands but it was a bloody fun weekend! As long as you're prepared for it with decent waterproofs and plenty of spare dry clothes to at least sit/sleep in comfort around your tent then rain doesn't make a difference (well to me anyway). :angry:

It's bloody hard work and it depends who you're with, but it is still amazing when you're there. It's just very, very different. I went in '98 for my first with my best mate and he'll admit that he's hard work at the best of times. He wasn't happy over getting soaked until he bought this patent leather gestappo jacket - then it was all hunky dory. I went to V later that year with another mate who when it started to rain on the Sunday morning packed up and said "I'm not standing in this all day, I'm off".

Just get mud on you as soon as possible (I'm not suggesting be a mud angel), but that way you're then not arsed about avoiding getting muddy and you can just get on with having fun.

to be honest, this year due to the forecast i didnt take any wellies with me, and it was my first ever glasto, yet next year i hope to be there, if the forecast is for rain, so be it.

I'll jump in the first mud puddle i see and think f**k it, cant get worse than this and enjoy the rest of the festival...

just wish this years festival didnt have to end, had such a great time while i was there and now have the glasto blues big time, back down to earth and majorly depressed, yet lookin forward to next year, bring it on rain or shine...

2007 was memorable, had a good lineup

but the weather makes it a chore walking between stages, rolling fags etc

walking through the stodgy mud, every step a real effort..wellies getting stuck and coming off etc

quite a lot of people suffered injuries that year , sprains/broken bones due to slipping in the mud

Wet is more than managable with preparation (see also Bearded Theory tornado fest 2 months ago ), but dry is nicer.

No. No no no no. No.

I did 92, 93, 94 and 95 without any rain. I was hooked and the place changed my life forever. If I'd have turned up for the first time in 97, 98, 05 or 08 I would have hated the world and thought Glasto should be expelled to the far reaches of Hades along with Radiohead and meringue. As it is, I hate much of the world, most definitely meringue and Radiohead but the thought of going to Glasto each year somehow keeps me sane and (vaguely) positive.

As long as the rain f**ks the f**k well off.

It is possible to have a good time over a complete washout of a festival.

I had a great time in '07, '98, and '97 (which we seem to remember as the bad ones, but I seem to have plenty pics of it not raining!)....

It does, however, make certain things sh!te.

Like getting in the tent, getting out of the tent, getting changed, travelling from one stage to another, finding shelter, drinking, smoking, sitting, lying, etc.

What almost completely negates that ability to have a good time is the temperature.

The cold combined with the rain and mud will sap your spirit completely.

This is why 1997 stands out in my memory.

Bitterly bitterly cold.... horrible.

Still, I must have had some fun, because I came back.

making a wet glasto fun is all in your mind-set. if your inner voice is constantly going 'i'm cold, this is sh1t, what am i doing?' you've had it. i chose to take delight in the fact that i COULD walk for miles through mud only falling occasionally and congratulating myself on being harder than i thought.

I feel quite lucky my first time was 2003, with near-perfect weater.

If my first had been 2007 i'd probably have seriously thought about not coming back.

I hate the rain, it sucks energy from everyone. Puts people in a bad mood. I like to sit on the grass with a cool beer, not trudge through treacle-mud or get splashed by slurry all day while trying to stay dry.

I've still had a great time at all the muddy ones I've done.

If you go well equipped with decent waterproofs and footwear, a positive attitude, and large quantities of rum everything is just brilliant!

I realised this year that I definitely drinlk less on a hot year - I just felt too dehydrated. On a rainy/muddy year I drink loads in order to cope - it just helps to skew reality a bit when it is lashing down I find.

Personally I don't mind the mud so much now I have got used to the idea of just getting muddy. I don't even mind normal rain - it's that lashing rain you get sometimes where you can't even look up - those are the moments when I feel a bit beaten - but it always passes.

Naah for me anyway. If it's raining AND muddy all during the festival duration, it really spoils my enjoyment. I didn't enjoy Glasto 2007 much atall. Rain rain rain, mud, mud, mud. Trudging around in all that treacle mud, pissing down with rain all the time, not being able to sit down on the grass. Hardly saw any bands that year. The rain and mud certainly put a dampener on things......

2007 was my worst Glasto by a long way, yet I'd still say yes - it's perfectly possibly to have an amazing time even if it barely stops raining.

My slightly catastrophic year in '07 was partially, indirectly due to the weather, but just as much down to our terrible, terrible neighbours and the fact that I was there with entirely the wrong person (funny what realising you're not Glasto-compatable with someone does to your relationship ). Basically, everything that year that could go wrong, did.

However... when we got back to the outside world, my ex moaned, ran Glasto into the ground to anyone that would listen and vowed never to return. In contrast, I looked at why we'd had the problems, decided to finally start attending the eFest meets and vowed never to return with my ex.

Skip to this year - I have the best Glasto of my life, and my ex is so bitter about missing it that he'll barely speak to me. And I would have had an incredible time whatever the weather had been like.

If you really learn from each Glasto you'll figure out the best ways to prepare for every weather, every eventuality. Even though I had a shite time in '07 that experience will probably guarantee I never repeat anything that happened that year. This year it could have thrown it down from beginning to end and I still would have seen amazing bands, danced my ass off, hung out with fantastic people and generally had a ridiculously good time.

In short: wrong friends/partners = bad; eFestivals = good; weather = who gives a crap? It's Glasto!
