Unbearably hot in Tent !

hopefully it will help cool my room down, a nightmare trying to get to sleep after work at 7/8am etc

Tents always get hot, theres not a great deal that can be done about it, my advice is be a bit scientific about it. Remember basic rules about sunrise/sunset etc, get there early then pitch your tent by a hedge, fence, another large tent, anything which will give you shade first thing in the morning rather than full on sunshine, then invest in some foam earplugs and airline style eyeshades, guaranteed at least five hours kip to set you up for the rest of the day, worked for me.

In an exposed, morning sun facing part of Pennards, this worked a treat... made by the man pictured, Bobstar (I owe this man many hours of cool sleep in relative dark)

Basic design: Awning purchased from a camping shop (so independant to the 2 tents underneath), space blankets glued to awning, edges patched with silver gaffer tape then a fish design added (v.important!)

Why it works: The space blankets reflect the heat with an air gap in-between the awning and the tents providing additional protection.

Since the blankets are glued to the awning, they don't make any crackling noises... but we were concerned that the heat deflected would cause problems with the neighbours. This appeared not to be the case tho - the heat was deflected up and away and we had good relations with the neighbours without complaints... People walking by did thank us for giving them a local landmark (in full sunshine, you could see it from the moon... probably)

I am sure there are many solutions, but this is a good one...

i used the foil blanket but only did one side coz i couldnt be bothered. didnt have pegs so put in between the inner and outer tent and hooked it there. did work, but dunno if it'd work better on the outside?

it was damn hot in general tho!

Up where I was camped there were helpful souls (*) popping their head in through the tent door while we slept and leaving it open, no doubt because we looked a bit warm. How thoughtful of them.

Was ball boilingly hot in the tent in the morning. I liked it though. Forced me to get up and go for a walk for no real reason around the site early every morning. A right ponce about.

We were going to bed 4.30 ish. My tent opens both ends, and has removable groundsheets in both porches. Sleeping with the inner tent open and groundsheets up cooled it til about 10.30, followed by the fully open and underwear technique til about 12.30. 8 hours sleep/day, more than I get at home. Waterbottle left on grass for cooling purposes, and then drunk for hangover purposes on waking. No problems.

I'm totally getting some space blankets for on my tent next year, after like 6am ish, the whole thing became a big red oven that was just far too hot to stay in! Although it did mean I didn't waste my day sleeping in with a hangover!! hahaha

We are actually planning to do this properly - we've worked out a much improved design and are now looking at manufacture, how to keep costs down and ensure safety... if we do it, it will be done properly! I was ill from sunday to wednesday (thankfully only 1 day of the festy) from heat exhaustion that I got in my tent. Never had it before but next year i'll be covering my tent in a space blanket

unbarably hot tent syndrome is a blessing in diguise, if you're tent was too cozy for you when you are hungover you wouldn't be so willing to get up and get moving about and get an early start on your recovery so you are good to go in time for when the bands start to come on stage and you would miss lots of things.
