Two of those acts are too big and the rest aren't big enough. Malev aren't far off but I can't see them headlining

Was trying to do some decoding as Andre I think mentioned on the Download Fan Forums knowing that one of those Tuska acts wouldn't play Download - presumably to play this other festival (Outbreak?) and Trees?

Turnstile doing Manchester Outbreak and Trees? I'm guessing this was the band you said in the Download Forum that was being predicted that aren't playing?

Turnstile would be epic! Their new album is currently vying for the top spot in my Album of The Year list.

I think I know one of the headliners for this. Said band are definitely playing another UK festival and are also playing a second UK fest and by process of elimination, Trees seems to make sense as being the second festival.

President? Just got announced for Takedown as a headliner.

The band I’m referring to have been predicted in a logo slot for DL next year by myself and others but they’re not as big as a Main Stage sub or Second Stage headliner. I was pretty surprised when they said they weren’t going to be at DL next year.

Malevolence?

My guess is Malevolence, I just don't think they'd be in the conversation as headliner until they're a bit in panic mode. They're getting into the right size venues but I wouldn't say they're necessarily gonna shift huge amounts as Trees headliner.

The one thing James said last week about some band pushing to headline but then he was talking to the support band on their upcoming tour who said the ticket sales are fine but not great so he ruled them out as headliner. Be intrigued to know who that was.

Well for what it's worth, they haven't confirmed any headliners yet anyway.

2 are close, both have the same booking agent but one of those have only just joined that agent.

Time for some Internet sleuthing

Taking a punt that the agency is WME, have a bunch of huge bands (Foos, Qotsa etc.) and have had a few bands headline too (Coheed & TBS, At The Drive In, Nothing But Thieves, Jimmy Eat World)

Looking through the roster for bands the right size was tricky, Frank Carter and the Sex Pistols stood out, and AFI and Thursday too (though not sure they'd be big enough). Not sure who else there could headline who haven't before (he didn't say they haven't on the pod, I'm just making an assumption)

Also spotted Feeder on the roster which could be interesting. Feel like James would view them in a similar to way Placebo / Manics where he likes them personally but doesn't view them as a good fit. But they were pretty high on the list of bands who been used on that predictor site so hopefully he's seen that and looks into booking them

Excellent detective work this. Reckon it could be the year for AFI.

@Andre91 not replying to Malevolence while shooting down the other suggestions makes me think it is them he's talking about. Feels like when one of the kids in class has their hand up with the right answer but the teacher keeps picking on others to have a go instead

    • Avril gets above GC on rarity (see Cypress Hill this year). She drew in something like 70,000 at Glastonbury, so much so that they had to close the field off. I’d wager that she would get the biggest crowd of the entire weekend if she was to play DL.
    • We've reasonably predicted/wanted a bill of Blink, Avril, Good Charlotte for a while 😅    I'm surprised that Good Charlotte's UK shows in November seem to be doing well atm... obviously if they sell out those venues then they should be subheadliners right? (if they play download that is). They'd only look a strong sub if it was before Blink though I rekn.

    • Well Jason Isbell is on blistering form for this run of European gigs, wonderful night in Bristol
    • I am also interested in this. I was looking for past years, and it looks like it has a limited capacity.  I would love to see Ela Minus, but I guess I won't be able to make it in time, unfortunately.
