There's loads who I would love to see/again tbh. If we go from pre 1990 I'd be happy to see any of these on the poster (I've held of the likes of Floyd, Zeppelin etc as not happening ever). 

 

AC/DC, Iggy/Stooges, GNR, Iron Maiden (though I do have tickets for Knebworth so should be happy with that), Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, Deep Purple, The Cure, Queen, Pixies, Jethro Tull, Sting, Yes, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Madness, Happy Mondays. 

 

Be loads more if I think about it, I know half of those aren't going to rock up at Download as well.

I'd probably take that. Few bands I've never listened to so good chance I get a couple more but a good six bands on there Id be super happy with and the missus would be happy with pretty much all of them.

Historically Second Stage headliner was equivalent to 3rd on main.

 

In 2023 that definitely changed and the second stage headliners were as big, if not bigger, than the subs. FFDP, Evanescence and Ghost would have all been main sub and are probably bigger than the bands subbed.

 

Pantera then maintained that level in 2024 before it fully slipped back in 2025.

Also to add, every second stage headliner in 2024 and this year are 3rd down bands apart from maybe Pantera, hence the notion of it applied surely to 2023 only.

Among his picks, Grohl placed special emphasis on Robert Eggers’ directorial debut, The Witch. Released in 2015, the film follows a Puritan family living in 17th-century New England who are terrorised by a witch living in the woods near their family farm. Establishing Eggers’ dark and suspenseful storytelling for the first time, Grohl reportedly fell in love with the film instantaneously.

 

Explaining his utter adoration for The Witch to Entertainment Weekly, the Foo Fighters songwriter revealed, “That film is not only beautiful and a work of great actors and a great director, but, man, there’s something about a good Salem witch possession that will always scare me more than any Saw movie or any Ring movie,” adding, “I’ve watched that movie fifty f**king times; I love that film.”

 

While Studio 666 did not follow many of the same themes as The Witch, the band’s appreciation for Eggers’ film is evident in their performances. It seems as though a penchant for horror films has been one of the very few constants in the life and musical career of Dave Grohl, and the songwriter continues to explore the genre to this day.
