He mentions islands of strangers speech as part of the criticism. Streeting definitely more liberal when comes to internationalism and immigration....but obviously he's dodgy evil man who wants to sell off the NHS to the zionist tech barons, something like that anyway.

Can't see him winning back the red wall with that letter. Pitching a return to Blairism at the moment feels like a socialist campaigning in 1990 just after the Berlin wall fell.

The cabinet need to step up and force Starmer to declare an exit timetable, by resignation if necessary.

I'm sure lots of cabinet ministers like Reeves and Lammy would be against this as it would also be the exit (from cabinet) for them!

Some thoughts that Reeves may be kept on by candidates to appease the markets. Maybe the markets will have her chancellor forever!

I read that and some truth in it but Chancellors always get swapped in and out.

I think Darren Jones would be well received by the markets but realistically the next appointment will be someone who has helped the Starmer-replacement get elected.

Supposedly Josh Simons who gave up his seat for Burnham was a director of Labour Together (McSweeney think tank).

If this is the sort of person standing aside to help Burnham, does that undermine his left-wing credentials?

Move Rayner in as Foreign Secretary maybe to give her an elite position? And then shift Cooper to Health?

Peston has mooted that the best move Starmer could make now (to keep her from running) is to give Rayner the Health job. Not that daft as she has a background in social care. However this was before the Burnham announcement.

Surely she'll want one of the 4 offices of state. Health feels a downgrade from Deputy PM to me...

Deputy PM is decided by the membership, in terms of her cabinet role it had been Housing.

Ah good point. Anyway, she's never had one of the Big 4 jobs, surely she expects one now.
