You'd think... maybe they're worried if economy starts improving next year then Tories might have a chance, so trying to negate any mud that can be thrown at them.

on't think it'll improve by enough for anyone to be feeling a benefit.

Cost of living might have subsided a bit... energy and food prices coming down. Public services will still be sh*t though.

The problem is that people have been very skint and so any improvement makes them feel better off, even if they are still far worse off than they were.

It is why a 1pence cut in income tax works as a 'bride' as even though it really is not much money for most people they see more take home pay and extra in their bank so feel better off.

It is the same as why loads of people are now ignoring petrol prices rising to over 150p a litre - cos 200p a litre is still fresh in their memory so they feel better off.

Yes, so that feeling could help the Tories next election.

Which also begs the question, will they do tax cuts next April?

I can't see it being April which gives them the dilemma of making an announcement in Autumn 2024 for cuts April 2025 - which may help them via headlines in the media   - and would also give Labour the problem of having to fund the cuts of they win.

The Tories are going to lumber Labour with heaps of crap things forcing them to keep them even though they hate them or have the reversing them used against them thereafter to con the electorate. Expect some really right wing policies next year withy many helping the wealthiest most.

Sadly the Tories care more about themselves than they do about the country and so will f**k over the country to try and help themselves return to power sooner.

I am so glad I am not young.

If Labour will not increase taxes on anybody then where are they getting money from to do anything?

If the answer is 'from growth' then what is the plan for if there is little or no growth?

Given the polling on wealth taxes being they are very popular with the people then has Labour ceased to be the party of the people?

Are the Lib Dems now the party of 'the left' as they policies are almost all to the political left of the Labour party?

Just some fun questions for a Bank Holiday Monday morning.

The reality is if labour need additional money they will raise taxes, but they don’t want to go into an election saying it. While tax rises are popular people tend to think those rises should come from people earning more money than them.

while martin Luther king  was having his dream, the people of Bristol were boycotting their buses in protest at the employment colour-bar, the protest brought about anti-discrimination legislation.  and was a big step forwards for the UK.
