What about all your past flying holidays? Do they not count?

And I’m not buying the no increase in emissions bit either… why would anyone go and stay on a yacht that’s not going to move at all?

In a way I don't think they do. Well, they do count towards emissions obviously, but if someone used to do a bad thing, then stopped doing the bad thing, then surely that's a positive? Otherwise no-one would stop doing anything bad. And nothing would change. If you see what I mean. I'm sure we all have stuff we used to do that we've since changed our minds on. Doesn't mean you can't point out that these things might be bad.

TBH I think you're all (Neil included) so determined to argue that you're making points you don't even agree with and tying yourselves in knots.

And for the record, I fly, once or twice a year, nearly always within Europe.

Not sure about this it's all the medias fault for Labour changing the policy. They came up with it and shouted it from the rooftops...Reeves and her I'll be the green chancellor speech, and now they are changing it because financial/political reason, but this isn't being driven soley by the media.

its driven by the affordability. labour need to spend on more than green?

My old man visited at lunchtime .... never going to vote Labour again on this , fortunately we live in a Lib Dem constituency so wont have the need to . final straw for him today , suggest it might be for others too . Lets see if it impacts the polls

won't he and you be pissed off when your council is broke and you've got no services. without spending £28bn a year on green might be able to fund councils.

The Tories trashed the economy, the BoE put up interests from near zero to over 5% so they can’t justify spending that money now every year. Just another reason why raising interest rates has been a terrible move.

So you got to go to America but we can’t? Ok got it. I guess I’ll have to go stay on a non moving yacht for some reason then.

have i told you that yoyu can't, or is it that you've worked out you shouldn't?

me living it up on a billionaire's plaything will create no extra emissions.you encouraging planes to fly will create exta.

Well yes of course crashing the £ isn’t good but that’s what Truss did

Flying off on holiday isn’t a bad thing in my book. We all have choices to make to lessen our impact on the planet - if I want to fly instead of having kids and eating meat that’s my choice. Where do you draw the line?

All travel is bad. Should I not visit my family anymore because however I travel that 300 mile round trip I’ll be creating emissions.

Should we all stop going to festivals or travelling for any reason?

I’ll bet you 100 quid to any charity of your choice that you don’t end up spending any of this summer on a mega yacht.

You have a history of making stuff up on here.

will you take the bet ?

i posted yesterday that its unlikely i'll get to be on it during the summer, (cos the owners will want it), it'll probably be october before i can go.

The way guilt has been loaded onto the "man and woman the street" is outrageous. Their behaviour is a mere "drop in the ocean" when compared to the behavior of governments, big business, corporations, the super rich etc

We're constantly bombarded with adverts encouraging us to buy completely unnecessary shite under the illusion that it will make us happier. Reality TV serves to make us feel inadequate for not having what the elite few have and adds to our wasteful consumerism.

You said earlier ‘lifestyle attitude’ and ‘consumerism’ is a problem.

Of course it is, but can't you see that the fault lies with the big companies, advertising agency's etc

Sadly most can't see how we're being manipulated to make the few rich.

    • Elastica posted last night teasing a return, wonder where they would play if they reformed?
    • I agree but anyone under Rodrigo would be a sub in reality, that day would sell out in under an hour whoever is subbing, in which case Wolf Alice would make a lot of sense   The more unrealistic part of the scenario at this point is Rodrigo headlining
    • All you can say is...     If he couldn't convince nations that really would've benefitted from the short-term hit of an up-front £50mil payment by this time next year, what hope did he have?   Guess we'll now just have to monitor and see if this could derail Infantino's plans to be re-elected FIFA President next year.
    • Spider-Man: Brand New Day   Highlight was a bloke reacting to the post-credit scene by going "Holy f**k it's Tobey Maguire!" despite the scene having no reference to him at all. Which made my close-to-full screening of the film laugh a lot.   Film was pretty good. It was interesting as much as an exploration of the ramifications of the end of No Way Home and being about isolationism and male loneliness, which I thought it actually did quite well. Though I do ponder if I liked it as much as the other 3 Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. Sadie Sink was good tbf, while I also liked Jon Bernthal as Punisher, enough that I might go watch his Disney+ shows.   Seem to have had a Marvel kick recently having also watched Thunderbolts and Shang-Chi, both of which I thought were pretty good.
    • Wolf Alice won't get headliner for Reading either, they will sub if they play, that is where their level has stopped I feel. Both TFG and Skyvip for the big shows this year was just a stretch too far. Every headliner this year is bigger than them too I'd say.   Agree with Capaldi I don't think Yungblud will be at Reading. I would guess Bludfest 3 or Download.
