...there's already a battle going on inside govt whether to have more onshore wind farms or not...think there's going to be some announcement on Thursday.

I don't see how you can achieve the creation of a post-fossil fuel energy system without onshore wind farms at some point or another.

Le Pen polling better.. it's almost as if pro Putin fascism is on the up

France's election has been strange - at one point last autumn everyone was saying Le Pen was a shoe-in to win, but last month it was Macron leading the way by a mile. Consensus is that France has also been hit less by the cost-of-living issues than us, but clearly enough grievances are still around to make that option seem more desirable. That and I don't think Macron's ability to campaign for re-election has been helped by having to take a more active role in this Russia mess.

Certainly I can assume it'll need the run-off vote on April 24 to figure it out, one way or another.

France have capped energy price rise to 4%.

Unfortunately they do have a lot of right wing nationalist/racists in France. Socialist parties been pretty much wiped out.

Which is why its difficult to explain what is happening by labelling people with a British or American view of politics. Something that both the left and right in France is united on is the republic and the role of secularism in society. A publication like Charlie Hebdo publishing a cartoon of the prophet Mohamed wouldn't be seen as "right wing" rather a fundamental human right won by the people for the people.

Le Pen wins in 2022.

Trump in 2024.

Then what?

I mean, that would be pretty shit. But while I think a Republican will win the 2024 US Presidential election and will probably continue down the extreme path that party is taking, I'm not yet 100% sold that candidate will be Trump.

Maybe it's one of many legal chickens coming home to roost, or a shock candidate that does to Trump what he did to the other Republicans in 2016, or coldness on the idea of re-running someone who lost in 2020 (even if many still deny that he lost that time), or just the fact the early favourite rarely wins the nomination. But either way, I'm not so sure he's nailed on for that just yet.

Granted, still a long way to go.

Charlie Hebdo thing was about freedom of speech...liberty, equality, fraternity and all that. Le Pen is a far right, nationalist racist. There is a difference.

But thats it isn't it if she's the only one seen as standing up for the principles of the republic that's why the socialists have moved over and are now voting that way. Macrons trying to get those votes back:

the principles. Give me a break.

As I said its difficult to understand the French view point from our perspective and view of the world. They don't define left and right in the same way, which is weird as its where the terms left and right come from (the French revolution)

Hmmm I thought he was content enough to stay at Fox News for a spot of whining. My first thought had been Florida's Ron DeSantis, or maybe a test of Richard Osman's theory from a TV show I saw years ago that Ted Cruz would be worse than Trump.

but isn't that the same everywhere...far left and far right start looking the same?
