A rant

I was told I could speak about my experiences at Standing Rock on a stage at Glastonbury this year. I was told it would take a while for someone to get back to me, but they never did. Meanwhile, I purchased wellies, a tent, a pump, a sleeping bag, a backpack, welly socks, air mattress, dry shampoo, booked a rental car, organised childcare etc.

I've still not heard anything. Nothing at all. I could have possibly spent the money on the above items to see A Tribe Called Red Elsewhere. I could have saved myself a lot of embarrassment by not telling all of my friends that I'm speaking at Glastonbury. I am just extremely disappointed and feeling invisible. I suppose I should be used to feeling invisible. That is how it is with Natives. Even when we are here, we are not seen. My husband has just cancelled the childcare and I will try to get my rental car money back tomorrow. Beyond gutted and rather mad now. I'd also applied to volunteer through Water Aid, but I don't know what more one would have to do to get in there. Getting sprayed in the face with mace by mercenaries protecting the water is not enough I guess.

Who told you? Do you have any evidence of this? An email? If it was just a phone or in person conversation, you were fairly foolish to presume it was definite and buy all that stuff without confirmation. If you have that confirmation, I'm sure it will work out fine.

P.s. For next time, walking boots, not wellies.

As simpo has said above, I thought you were already announced as being there.  Maybe you just need to sort out the bit about how you get in.  I have no idea how it works for those "performing" at the festival but it might be worth giving the festival a call?  Would love you to be there.

I had no idea that was going on on another stage. No idea at all. I'd talked with the coordinator of another area and was told someone from the stage would get in touch with me, that it would be a while and to wait it out. So I did, and now this. I was there with those guys, but I live in the UK (not many Natives over here). I made composting toilets with Patricia Arquette, worked camp media at Oceti Sakowin, as well as a number of other jobs while I was there. It seems those guys are getting flown in and I'm getting the shaft.

How was the chat though? Email? Phone call? Face to face? Always get something in writing. Could have just been a bullshitter...

Give them a break. For whatever reason, we have someone who is very upset, seemingly through no fault of their own. Sure, in hindsight chasing things up could have helped, but assurances were given along with advice to wait ages.

"Foolish" is way too harsh. Come on, be nice.

Chat and e-mail, and I'm no idiot, This was not bullshitting but maybe an organisational issue.

Not too harsh. Some guy tells you you're playing Glasto in whatever Form verbally and you take that as red without confirmation? Naive at best. Turns out Queen isn't foolish, they had an email. I was offering comfort for the latter, it should be alright, just go through the proper channels and surely Queen can be added to the thing already happening, explaining the circumstances.

what about Adam lambert ? Is he upset about this issue too?

I really hope I don't bump into you for a chat at the festival. You appear to be the antithesis of the kind and inclusive philosophy that we hold so dearly.

Maybe try a different festival?

@Queen - sorry to hear of your plight. I too hope something gets sorted for you.

No problem but, with all the hate, anger and sadness currently making headlines, perhaps consider being slightly more kind and empathetic when you post on here? Especially if someone is expressing their own sadness and frustrations?

Just a thought...
