Middle Class post alert.

I am considering taking g a box of wine this year for weight reduction. Does anyone know anywhere that sells boxed wine that isn't supermarket house? I've had a hunt round, but no joy.

Just had a look and didn't realise boxed wine was so sad, if I had to choose would probably take this.

Thank you - that's better than what I'd spotted so far!

(Seems that over in the States, high-end boxed wine is a bit of a trend (eco packaging, weight reduction etc...) - watch out Shoreditch! )

Can recommend Sainsburys Shiraz and Montepulciano. I've had them for a few years running now. Both fairly robust and can take a bit of a bashing and a sloshing around in a bag. The key is taking it out of the box though! Saved on space and easy to carry in a day bag.

Tip with boxed wine - always try buy something thats been bagged within the year ideally. Boxed/bagged wine ages a lot quicker than bottled wine so the younger the better.

It's happening Titters, boxed wine bars are already popping up in The Ditch.

I'm claiming hipster status on this trend.

The Nal - cheers for the tips - I shall investigate further, and really appreciate the point about when the wine is bagged!

Boxed wine was my downfall in 2013. Was at the front of pyramid all day for The Stones (and others) and drank my way through a box of red. Thought i was doing ok until i looked down at my shirt at about 7pm and noticed it was streaked with red wine splashes. Then started sobbing for some reason during "You can't always get..."

Boxed wine is a dangerous road....

Ordinarily we simply buy decent wine we know we like and decant it the night before into empty 500ml plastic water bottles. Any degradation in quality during this process still doesn't reduce it to the levels of boxed wine. Add a few boxes of cider and some amount of whisky for the evening chills and we're all set! Plus the occasional trip to the Cider Bus or Avalon inn naturally...

Can definitely recommend the cocktails here - especially the turtle dove!

Look for the Red camper van!

I had a cocktail from here. Judging by the indigence list I had a Black Samba, can't tell you what it tasted like though because I was absolutely battered at the time.

I remember enjoying it though.

I've only recently discovered amaretto and I have to say... it's proper lush. I'll be reducing the amount of flavoured vodka I make this year, and I'll be mixing some amaretto and cherry coke as well.

Try it with Cranberry juice, dogs bollocks

I'm not planning a box in a day... I've been there before and.... Well, it wasn't a good train journey back home.

Top gin tip: separate a big 1.5 litre bottle into smaller plastic bottles and pop some fresh fruits in and make different flavours. Pomegranate works partularly well and fresh cucumber is lovely and tastes fresher than the pre flavoured cucumber gin. I usually do this a few days before to let it infuse. Then all you you need is a load of plain tonic or soda water instead of loads of different types of mixer you can get soda water from the bars which is the cheapest drink so saves on the pennies if you need to. Also for me I need variety to keep drinking all weekend!

I did this last year with bitter lemon and grapefruit and froze them before the festival along with 30 ciders and popped them in a cool box lined with multi layer thermal quilt, it was all gone by Friday but it stayed cold.

Yes I have frozen them too the fruit usually freezes and keeps it super cold for at least a day or so in a cool box !

How do you make the pomegranate gin? Is it literally as simple and adding some pomegranate seeds to the gin for a few days?

Yeah its as simple as that it tastes great too really light and refreshing. Once I put them in i give it a good shake to help release the juices from the pomegranite seeds but there so juicy that they infuse really well.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
