Sorry I disagree, equality is everyone's fight and everyone should be responsible to make everyone equal.

Also at the same time I don't think it was a sexist joke or comment.

We can and should support women in their fight for equality, but it is their fight to win not ours.

A freedom given to you by the enemy is no freedom at all, as it can be taken back in an instant.

I'm a man. I'm part of the problem in a plethora of ways. Just like every other man. That's patriarchy for you.

Which means surely you are in the best position to be part of the solution.  After all, I'm just a weak woman, how am I supposed to change anything?

What utter, utter horseshit!

standing up to inequality, bigotry and prejudice is every decent person's responsibility, regardless of whether they are part of the group that is being subjugated or not.

equality won't come from men giving it, women will have to fight for and win it.

where have I said anything in disagreement to any of that?

As said previously, that is utter bollocks.  You can't just fight someone and take power.  There has to be a concession at some point.

Y'know, the odd thing is whenever you bang on about racial inequality I always presumed it was from the point of view of a white man.  Clearly I can assume from this conversation that you're not white because, y'know, I'm sure you wouldn't be fighting other peoples' fights would you?

i said it's not my fight to win

Semantics, very good! The last resort of someone who's backed themselves into a corner.

The simple fact is, you made an ill-considered, somewhat misogynistic 'joke', which someone challenged you on. Rather than saying 'fair enough, I was wrong, I apologise', you went on the defensive because you are incapable of backing down.

As far as it being 'not your fight', to win or otherwise, presumably you think the story of Steven Biko should have been ignored by Donald Woods, because it was 'not his fight', as a white man?

anyone can be involved in the fight against discrimination, regardless of whether it affects them directly.

You are either for, or against, or simply standing on the sidelines saying 'nothing to do with me'.

And that's why there won't be equality between men and women any time soon

And yes i 100% believe in racial equality. Just like I 100% believe in equality between the sexes.

you made a misogynistic joke.

You chose not to apologise when challenged.

You said 'it's not my fight' regarding the struggle for equality.

How many more examples do you need?

Goodnight all.

Yes, you're full of 'nuances', aren't you?

And please don't patronise me, you arrogant arse.

If you really can't look back at what you've written and see how people have taken exception to any of it, then there's no point discussing it further.

I say "it has to be women who win this fight"

You interpret that as me being against equality. That makes you look a bit thick.

This argument has been done to death in the discussions section of the forum anyway. Have a read through, you might learn something.

surely by mearly defining men/women as different you can see that your creating a us/them platform for inequality to exsist

Irregardless on your views and beliefs while people still have that attitude in my opinion we can never achieve equality on any level

You say 'it has to be women who win this fight'

I interpret that as you being happy to sit back and let other people fight for equality.

What made me feel you are somewhat against equality, was your misogyny, and refusal to apologise for it.

Maybe you should try listening to people, rather than just assuming your opinion will be superior. You might lean something.

You interpreted it wrong. That's your fault, not mine.

Yeah, Duran Duran. They were always about image which rubbed me up the wrong way, but they did manage to create a few good singles along the way.

Plus their singer looks like he should be in Doves these days, so that puts them in my good books.

Would I see them? Entirely down to clashes and what the people I'm with want to do. Not a band to highlight in the clashfinder, but might be fun if I actually saw them.

Ok, maybe I did interpret your comments about who's fight it is wrongly. I would say that makes it both our fault actually, as if you were clearer about your meaning, it wouldn't be open to misinterpretation. But that's by the by.

What about your misogynistic 'joke'? What about your refusal to apologise when ICGenie objected to it?

Are they somehow my fault, not yours, too?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
