Within Temptation are headlining Alcatraz Festival in Belgium the week before Pukkelpop. That festival also rule out some Shelter candidates like Airbourne or Ministry.

Didn't see that. I'll scrub 'em off (another shit name ruled out)

Reckon the first, sorry second line up announcement can't be too far away now.

So...

Oscar and the Wolf - Rihanna - Chemical Brothers

NGHFB - Kings of Leon - LCD Soundsystem

Massive Attack - Muse - Jack U

Is my latest shout.

Way too expensive, I presume. Massive Attack would be straight out headlining too, not settling for a daylight show.

I've still got my optimistic head on. Realistically, It'll be more like

Oscar and the Wolf - Rihanna - Netsky

Placebo - Snow Patrol - Netsky

Deus, Offspring - Netsky

Perhaps. But with weekend ticket prices no doubt increased to at least 200 euros a pop and a clear bank balance for the first time in years, who knows what the budget will be?

Best to set your expectations low Dave, saves any upset and disappointment further down the line!!

If they take the piss like last year I'll be looking elsewhere tbh. As it stands I'm all ready to book again if it's a decent line up.

Didn't see that. Thank fuck for that. People would have really lost their shit if he'd been announced for PKP.

I'd take Travis, Faithless, Jon Newman and Soul II Soul out of that lot.

Just to set my mind at rest, where's this from. Can't find it - seen the UK exclusive bit but not Europe.

"

After a phenomenal 12 months dominating the charts and converting 90% of the Earth's population into Beliebers, Justin Bieber is set to dominate the stages at Hylands Park and Weston Park - his only European festival performance this summer!"

90%? :D

Picked up a local forum over the weekend that apparently the line up is going to be announced on Snapchat this year. Imagine it will go live on Twitter around about the same time but this is no doubt down to the influence of Sarah and her mates as they were all over Snapchat last year.

The above tweet does fill me with a certain amount of dread though as most of her content is about Bieber. Hopefully that Capital FM press release is true but I'm not banking on it.

Announcement was quite late last year (end of March) but agree it will be earlier this time round. Let's hope they've nailed a superb line up and can't wait to get it out there!

Quite possibly the worst line up I've ever seen.

V Festival have officially given up. Embarassing really. Having take time to read the lineup in full it is clear that V have decided there is no place for them in the "real" festival calendar and have decided to go into competition with the likes of the "big gig in a field" shows that commercial radio stations put on. Nothing wrong with that and now they've nailed their colours to the mast everyone knows.

Beiber for Pukkelpop would be a disgrace. I'm commited in that I have booked my flight and hotel but if it was Beiber I'd have a night off for sure. I hope against hope that Beiber is exclusive to V. I just don't see how he is a festival act in any way shape or form.

A further edit to say. I just cannot see them booking Rhianna and Beiber on the same bill. Surely Rhianna is the pop day and there will be indie/alt days for the other two.

It's not even funny or ironic to have Beiber play a major festival.

Hope? From the BBC "Justin Bieber starts his Purpose world tour in Seattle on 9 March with the European leg set to begin in Iceland on 8 September."

Rihanna was a last minute booking. Maybe the pop headline act this year was Bieber. Chokri daughter loves him and I'm sure that she had lot of influence in his father decision. Last year we had an Ellie Goulding + Bastille day and the festival is targetting 16-20 years old people. Rihanna + Bieber = sold out in a few days. Why not?

Can you imagine Pukkelpop fields full of Beliebers? Thousands of teens with Justin written in their faces staying in the front of Main Stage since 11 in the morning?

Pukkelpop is doing strange things in the last years, so I'm ready for it. Chokri daughter seems to have power of decision here, so...

I don't think we should over-estimate the influence that Chokri's daughter has. She's about 18 years old and only started working for them last year - certainly no Emily Eavis at this point in time but may well fulfil that role in the future. Chokri isn't in charge of bookings, that's someone else's job, but he will obviously have a say on the big names and who headlines. He's been there from the start (as have most of the inner circle) and I can't believe they'd take the festival down this 'pop' route and ignore the rich, alternative heritage it's been built on for the past 30 years.

Just because Bieber is in the area doesn't mean he'll play; PKP rarely shares headliners with V and as we all know has much more in common each year with R&L. The scenario you describe johny with young girls camped out at the Main Stage all day sounds very familiar to 2008 when thousands of Metallica fans, with long hair and tight jeans, did exactly the same. I felt it had a detrimental effect on the atmosphere but because it was Metallica no one seemed to mind or thought it was a bad thing.

Let's hope we're putting 2+2 together and getting 5. And if we're not, then just like every other year it will come down to whether you and I and everyone else likes the line up enough to go. With so much (perhaps too much) choice now there's no excuse for settling for a festival that doesn't meet your requirements.

Agreeing with what Semprini said. Booking Bieber would basically ruin the festival's legacy, judging by the reactions on V's poster. Chokri's daughter's role is only in the marketing team, because she knows how to communicate with youngsters.

And to be fair: I'd rather have Rihanna than seeing Oscar & The Wolf or Noel Gallagher bumped up to headliner in a desperate move (assuming Green Day or another headliner pulled out). We still have Muse, Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers, Kings of Leon, LCD Soundsystem, The Cure, ... lined up for the other big spots.

Rihanna > Linkin Park in my books. And any out of that list would easily beat Alt-J + Bastille. They'd have to do their best to make it worse than last year.

Who was Rihanna booked in place of?

Whoever it was, Frequency had them booked as well as their first line up announcement had no headliners (unless they're doing a Bastille on their punters) - probably Green Day we imagine.

Quite surprised how well this board has taken the Rihanna booking. I think we've all been pretty level headed about it, The biggest worry for me is if there is another big pop act that was already booked, that means pop overload. If it's someone like Sam Smith, great, if it's that little shit Bieber, the negative feedback will be immense.

You'd like to think that they wouldn't do that to us but they had Bastille and Alt-J as headliners so anything's possible.

I'm reserving judgement till the first announcement. As I've said before, if there's a stonking upper billing of the likes of the Chems, Muse, Noel G, the Cure etc then Rihanna will be looked on as a decent booking.

A return to form please Pukkeklpop organisers or we could have another V fest on our hands.

I agree. Not my taste but common sense has prevailed here. Big international star, acceptable "big name" for a headliner, something different. I'm not a fan but for a festival like Pukkelpop it's a good booking.

Hopefully she's the Pop headliner and we get something interesting and different for the other two days. Fancy seeing Noel G, EODM and perhaps someone like Orbital.
