Gel insoles - any good?

I swear by my Lowa Combat boots. Wear them most of the time and never given me a blister or wet sock (even in 2007). However I still end up with tired and aching feet by the end of day 2.

Seen a few gel insoles on sale and wondered if they were any help? My current insoles are just standard thin foam which combined with a heavy walking boot provide little cushioning compared to trainers. Anyone tried them? Can you recommend a good brand?

I have no idea, but they sound like they're the bollocks to me. I bought some top of the range foam type ones a few years ago and they were great. Unfortunately I can't recall the name of them, or where the fuck they've got to for that matter. I think they still live in a pair of boots though.

I use gel insoles in wellies.

It's turned them from foot cripplers into something exceedingly comfortable.

I purchased some gel insoles off of ebay before Glastonbury last year and have worn my wellies almost every day since for walking the dog and have never had a blister or sore feet!

I think they are called Foot Sooothers and cost about a fiver on eBay!

Make sure there is a bit of extra room in the boots, as obviously they decrease the volume of space available to your feet when added

I can second this, they completely transform wellies. Not that they'll be needed!

I put insoles inside my converse and gel heels in as well, and i made my most comfortable pair of converse i have ever owned. perfect for days on days of standing and walking.

Yeah - I bought new boots a couple of months back, but I don't think I've got enough extra space for some nice shock absorbing gel.

Fantastic idea...I'd also recommend covering your entire body in a thick coat of Vaseline to avoid potential chaffing and wearing a full bio-chemical hazard suit; especially when nearing the long - drops!

I am currently trying to decide whether to try and make my wellies more bareable (I wear walking socks at G anyhow but they really kill your feet after almost a day wearing the fuckers) by insoling them, or whether I should just jack them in and buy waterproof walking boots and a set of gaiters........ I am now leaning towards at least trying the insoles off ebay before making any rash decisions! They seem to be getting good enough feedback.

I stick the gel insoles in my wellies to - much more comfortable - I mean, it doesn't stop your feet from sweating and being all hot but it solves some of the problems wellies cause. I would just like to option of wearing comfy trainers and not having to deal with mud.

Gel insoles were top of my list for Glasto '15 purchases this year. My feet have never been in worse shape then after last year and the preliminary test results of the jel insoles are looking very good.

Did anyone else get the feeling around the base of the toes that they had been over stretched from walking on the semi hard mud?

I wear these ones in my wellies everyday and have no problems! I was a bit suspect as they were £3.50 with free delivery but they are fine!

If saving money is a priority then go for the insoles, however I will never go back to wellies after going to a festival in a good pair of walking boots. My North Face ones have done 2 Glastonburys and about 5 other festivals great and never had a blister, all of my friends wore wellies last year and all were definitely feeling it my Monday. I wish my boots were a bit bigger though to try insoles, they do wonders to wellies.

You can get some fairly flat gel insoles, literally just a couple of mm thick, that should work in a tight walking boot. Had some ages ago, trying to find some for this year. Not as brilliant as the full size ones but they do help take some of the impact off your feet.

Not sure about gel insoles - I always go for the sheepskin type ones for wellies.

Sounds like they are worth a go then.

After reading some reviews I'm going to order a pair of Dr. Scholls Active Work Gel insoles. Think the extra arch support will be good for me. My boots have removable insoles so don't need to worry about thickness.
