You cant just throw around the word peadophile. Its offensive.

Agree entirely. It's become an incredibly powerful and destructive word, that in the last decade that has been thrown around too easily and can destroy lives, particularly when ignorant people don't know all the facts and make some pretty large assumptions.

I'd just like to point out that a further investigation found that pete townshend was found to be on a regular porn site, so maybe you should read up about things before throwing around huge accusations

He himself admitted to paying to access a child porn site.

But don't let the facts get in the way of making things up. ;)

He admitted to attempting to pay for a child porn site. He also admitted to having viewing other free child porn images too. The first by accident. But all in the name of research.

You either believe him or you don't.

Fair observation, BSR, but I think that you might agree that common parlance would recognise the expression 'well, they won the league because, over the season they were the best team...'!

Only the most partisan fan would suggest that his/her team, that lost the league by maybe more than 10 points, was the 'best' team in the league that year...!

A football league has defined description of 'success' - winning. Therefore, regardless of the subjective appraisal of the relative styles employed by different teams, if you win more than anyone else, you have achieved the greatest success. Ergo, you have achieved the key objective more (better) than any other team. Surely that makes you the 'best', by any sensible evaluation...?

(btw, I don't even like football very much...)

Ben

Most successful, yes, as that's objective; winners, yes; "best", not necessarily as that is subjective. It may involve factors beyond purely winning, spirit, aesthetical elements, luck (or lack of it) with refereeing decisions etc - whatever the speaker wants. It is a value judgement, a matter of opinion. A Google of "best team didn't win" will provide some examples!

PS: here's Pete in 2012 saying yet again that he paid for a child porn site.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/9572773/Pete-Townshend-I-paid-for-child-porn-to-prove-British-banks-were-channelling-sex-ring-cash.html

However, the reason he gives for why is a different one to the other versions he's given in the past. It's odd that the story keeps changing.

Perhaps Roger had it spot on with what he said about Pete all those years ago. That (paraphrased) he's a serial liar.

That's not different is it? I was always under the impression it was to prove the banks support these kind of payments? I mentioned it earlier.

Have to say this made me laugh ;

Ironically, in April 2006, the Home Office launched the child protection agency CEOP with del Naja’s song, Teardrop. Head of CEOP James Gamble, the person responsible for Operation Ore, told the press “I didn’t choose the music”

around the time of his arrest it was nothing about the banks and everything about him being anti-child abuse in the child protection sense.

As I've already said, I'm not trying to condemn him. There isn't the evidence to condemn him.

But there definitely is the evidence to say that he did something wrong by merely paying for access to a child abuse website, and that he suffered the legal consequences as a result of that admitted guilt.

There's been a few posts made that have denied the proven facts. I've posted back only to correct those wrong facts.

I just don't even see why it's something to bring up, it's been done to death now and even mentioning it puts a whole downer on the fact they're a pretty great headliner

*in some people's opinion

Well his autobiography certainly reads like a man who is full of shit. One of the hardest biographies Ive ever read, bored me to tears at times and full of utter nonsense in places.

This is coming from a person whose favourite band ever is The Who, but even Im absolutely disgusted by the booking of them.

So does anyone actually believe in the current legal system, the rehabilitation of offenders or of someone having paid their debt to society or should people be persecuted for their crimes until death ?

I'm not just talking Townshend but also people like Ched Evans who got convicted of rape and served his sentance only for people to make it almost impossible to continue his career as a footballer. Should everyone getting out of prison be forced to stay unemployed for the rest of thier lives ? Would the same vitriol be aimed at a plumber who did the same thing or is it just because they are famous ?

Asking the question - not giving an opinion yet.

I think its disgusting what they've done to the fans who were going to the Paris gigs, and then to not even reschedule 2 gigs but expect 12000 fans to fight it out over 6000 tickets. In this country it would be bad enough, but people will have booked flights and hotels in Paris which I guess are non-refundable, or if they are refundable there will be a charge of some kind. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that The Who and Glasto would screw over people like that when they could have just bumped someone up headline.

No, they shouldn't. I believe in the rehabilitation of offenders. I also believe (I studied this at uni for a bit) that paedophiles are born that way and will never stop. I also believe the only cure for them is the gallows.

So you don't believe in the rehabilitation of offenders then?!
