What Has Changed

I don't think the Other Stage has changed much... although it is a different structure now, that also changed slightly in the mid-naughties.

When in the 90's did you last go?

1993? I first went in 1999 and then only went again in 2011. The whole place was completely unrecognisable and a good twice the size. So the change since 93 is going to be crazy.

Having watch Glastonbury The Movie - the 1993 one - relatively recently, one of the biggest changes is there's no longer a ferris wheel with people queueing for ages to go on it.

Other than that the litter, the demographics and the general 'just here to get wasted' sentiments are pretty much identical.

Also fewer film crews perving on women getting washed under the taps.

Things that have changed:

Size: it's much MUCH bigger

Crowds: There's lots more people... no seriously LOTS more, possibly double.

Camping: Is very competitive for space now, you have to get there Wednesday to secure your camp.

Security: On the whole things feel safer now

Drugs: as previously stated, not as much blatant open-air drugs selling going on, lots more coke & ketamine than there used to be

Toilets: Are much much better than they've ever been. No Green police anymore so it may be like old-days peeing in hedges.

Water/Stand pipes: Better water pressure

Drainage: The drainage in the lower field is much better now Ted. Less likelihood of flooding and better water-run off

Demographics: Feels pretty much the same although I think I'm seeing more families than I did 10-20 years ago.

Transport: Past few years the roads in/out of the site have been OK with no major headaches BUT when it does go wrong it's back to the old-days of 4hr delays on a winding country road.

Food: I'd agree that food choices are more diverse.

Hippies: There are not enough of them

Naked people: See hippies.

Weirdness: Shangri La, Arcadia etc... more of this stuff happening and able to deal with the crowds much better. Cabaret/Circus has been pretty good for the past

The Park: A new section run by Emily Eavis, really rather good up there to chill out during the day. Rammed as hell when they have a specal guest playing.

Nitrous Oxide: Little bloody metal cannisters left everywhere especially around the Stone Circle.

Green Fields: still there though no traveller/convoys anymore.

The Underground/NYDownload: totally new from when you last went.. just go to it, I can't explain :-)

When I first went, in 98, I remember there being Main, Other, Dance Tent, New Band's Tent - which was up somewhere near Avalon, Avalon and Acoustic. That's about all I remember there being, although I imagine the Jazz World was there. Oh and the Cinema Field, which if I recall was somewhere near where John Peel now is. Lovely on a balmy evening, watching a film under a starry sky and hearing distant music and cheers floating over. Heavenly.

Man are you in for a shock Sofa. After the festi, would you remember to come back on here and post about what really stuck out for you as having most changed since '93?

For me since '94, so much has changed that much of it is unrecognisable both architecturally and sociologically. However there are echos of its former past in certain places, probably many South of the railway line. Things that were the same and have changed little since then to my mind are: Cider Bus, parts of Green Fields (e.g. Croissant Neuf), parts of Circus, Acoustic Stage, parts of Avalon maybe (though it was a fairly new area back then itself I believe).

With lots of you reminiscing about Glastonbury's past, I've just had a little look at the history section of the Glastonbury website where you can find all the stage information & line up for every year.

It might interest you if you've not already seen it?

I will gladly come back on here after the Festival no probs ,yeah its going to be shocking but im up for it ,i like surprises! I expect i will root out the old parts of the festival for a couple of days ,may even bump into some old friends but its my goal to see as much as i can ,take in a few bands old and new(line up is second to none really) and get wobbly along the way.

Far to many cobwebs need blowing out .
