Has anyone ever retired from international football and come back? Would it not have been worth while Woy asking him? Terry would have been there is he was asked. Im pretty sure of that

You're pretty sure of it?

The guy retired, it's perfectly reasonable to assume that he didn't want to play any more. If he wanted to play again, then pick up the phone and tell the FA/manager, otherwise they'll get on with their job of choosing players who do want to play. If you're expecting them to go begging to a convicted racist who took the cowardly option rather than facing up to his conviction to anyone outside of his protective Chelsea bubble and who, while probably offering an upgrade over other options, certainly wouldn't be any kind of saviour as he wasn't really that good in the first place (his mistake to allow Helder Postiga to score in Euro 2004 was just as bad as Jagielka's tonight) then I think you're putting the onus on the wrong party.

Best centre half in the PL last year

He did not want to retire did he, but, really? He felt he could not stay on due to his relationship with the FA?? It was very much not your standard retirement for sure

And yes Im pretty sure if Woy asked "hey fancy playing for your country in a World Cup" that he would have said yes

Woy did not want him and his baggage and hid behind his "retirement"

Edit - Was he convicted??? Thought he was not

On tonight's showing he would have been a better option than Jagielka, but on tonight's showing so would Chris Smalling or Steven Caulker. I think it may be exaggerating slightly to suggest that the FA/Roy Hodgson should have gone to Terry asking him to come out of retirement.

Theres no comparison between Terry and Jagielka. While the former made mistakes, he made things tough for opposing forwards. When they saw his name on a teamsheet they took notice, when they see Jagielka its probably a case of phil who?

However when it comes to centre backs Hodgson should be sympathized for having to deal with lesser players rather than criticized for not picking those who have retired.

Gary Neville please.

Boring how Gerrard's gonna get all the stick for this one despite being one of the best performers out there tonight - not that that's saying much. Uruguay pretty much deserved to win and no single moment tipped it in their favour.

Out of interest, when was the last time we had a poor defence?

In my opinion, there is only one British manager who would be the right choice for England, and that is Brendan Rodgers. But he isn't going to leave Liverpool so they will have to look for a foreign manager as mentioned.

    • I would imagine those kinds of accounts are only active around festival time, so if you don't get an answer sooner it would make sense to try again come June next year.
