I loved it! Still a few things I'm not familiar with. Could either be because I'm only half way through Dance with Dragons 2 or perhaps it's just changes made from the books.

isn't the book this series is mostly based on (A Feast For Crows) supposed to be a bit shit? apparently this series will also deviate from the book the most (thus far). never read the books myself so really not bothered, but my friend who has isn't too happy with this news

This one will be a combo of AFFC and ADWD. As AFFC and the first half of ADWD cover the same time period, just with different characters. They can cover a lot of this in one series, as there was a lot of 'filler' in the books. And by that I mean less action / plot development.

I think next years series will be interesting, as will mostly be up to date with the books. Though we might have book 6 out early next year.

from what I've heard, it looks like the TV series is now driving what goes in the books. Characters are being signed up for the next series before the book has been started to be written.

I read something about that too, but the reason given was to not give away future plot details. E.g. If Dinklage was only given a contract to the end of S6, then it could leak out the Tyrion bites the dust. (Hypothetical, not spoiler)

But the writers know where GRRRR is heading with the books, as they need to set the pieces in the series slightly differently, esp as after this year they're into the new book for some characters.

nah, you're having a laugh .... it would be a stupid and unnecessary expense to sign up the 'stars' when they wouldn't be wanted .... for a start, they'd only get to do that once, the next time they tried it they'd end up losing the cast.

Actors wanna work as well as get paid - particularly when their profile is high. They'd be mightily pissed off to be turning down other work on the basis that they'd be doing GoT and then not do GoT.

He is a consultant I thought on the TV series as well. Would be interesting to hear if watching the TV seasons he has thought of other ideas for his later books.

He's shared the ending with the producers too. But sadly not done on the new book - not even expected this year.

He's written one episode per series for 1-4, but not for the coming season, so he can focus on the book.
