Walking boot fans.....

I haven't wore mine since the 2013 festival, however my dad has been using them daily to take the dog out for the best part of the last year, am I going to need to wear these in again? Anyone?

I don't think you can really go by recommendations for boots as it's down to your feet. My hubby and I both got the same brand of walking boots and mine were so comfy but he never got on with his and always got blisters. Best thing to do is go and try some on.

I have Regatta and Hi Tec and both are really good having been warm for over 1000 miles around the forest of dean and in deep mud. Regatta are now no longer waterproof but great for dry walking.

I also have a pair of Thinsulate boots, breathable etc that I got in the sales for £29.90 and were so good I bought 2nd pair!!

I have to look after my feet as I tore my Plantar Fascia a few years ago - and that hurts!!

To make any boot even better get some Poron Insoles for them - they are fantastic, like memory foam for feet!!

Brasher supalittes are what I've been looking at, so this is good to hear! Just need to work out how to afford two pairs now. Any idea how much breaking in they'll need?

I was just going to wear a comfy pair of running trainers, and carry my wellies in my backpack with my booze, its always worked for other festivals.

Are the fabric ones sufficiently waterproof? It's the fear of soggy feet that is putting me off.

I can totally recommend my 30-odd year old Scarpa leather boots without even the merest hint of Goretex ... but you'd probably need a foot transplant in order to fully appreciate their finer qualities. Oh yeah, and be warned that they don't smell so good these days (and haven't done for a good many years !) so they're defo not tent friendly by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, given the choice, you probably wouldn't want them to be in the same field TBH A decent pair of walking boots are worth every penny providing you look after them and they'll be your feet's best friend if you also break them in properly and get used to wearing a couple of pairs of wooly socks.

Must have walked 1000's of miles in them but apart from numerous pairs of laces and countless tins of dubbin they've cost me nowt to keep on the road so to speak. Been in use regularly every single year since I bought them but only for relatively light duty stuff plus a couple of festivals a year since 2002 or thereabouts. One in the eye for the "dubbin rots the stitching" brigade seeing that they've enjoyed lashings of the stuff. Stupidly heavy, somewhat lacking in tread now and generally well past their prime in absolutely all respects but still virtually 100% waterproof despite the cracks, unbelievably comfortable and good for everything from full-on scorchio to total mudbath ... to frozen wasteland No need to check the forecast, they're the only footwear that ever accompanies me and Ye Olde Tent wherever we may go. I wouldn't swap 'em for anything no matter what until such time as they're in several pieces so wont actually stay on me feet any more ! Might even have to get a new sole unit stitched on in a few years time if they still make such things and there's anyone left who knows how to do it. Anyone know what Scarpa stuff is like these days just in case they do decide to give up the ghost before I do mind you

I brought waiders one year, which happened to be very muddy. All went well until I hit a particularly sticky muddy patch, when I got stuck and unexpectedly performed some impromptu slap stick comedy. This included falling over backwards, forewards, and sideways into the mud. There's footage of my buffoonery somewhere. I must track it down and put it on here for my humiliation to be complete.

I've always been tempted to go down the gaiters route with a pair of walking boots as wellies are so uncomfortable, but I just don't see how they'd be able to handle proper Glasto mud and rain?

Just got a great condition 2nd hand pair of Akutan Brashers off Ebay for £30. They will replace my trusty old Salomons which after a good few years of heavy use are finally beginning to give up the ghost.

Mine survived 2007. Just had to avoid the deeper mud in lost vagueness or get your jeans soaked. Every other year not a problem at all.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice here - had been tempted to buy online but after the advice from several of you dragged hubby to Cotswold Outdoor today and ended up getting him a pair of Salomon's. Then because the lovely sales lady was talking about the fit and why they suited his feet well I thought they sounded like exactly what I needed too, so tried them, fell in love and got a matching pair. How tragic.... Definitely good advice to try though, hubby is usually a size 7 and needed an 8, I'm usually a size five and had to get size 7!

Just wanted to bump this because I'm now in the market for some walking boots. I'll also be bringing wellies, so these are really just for comfort when I'm walking around a lot (although I'll have a spare set of gaiters in my daybag in case of an unexpected downpour!).

I expected to be budgeting around the £80-100 mark for a pair of decent boots, but looking on Amazon, these boots are very popular with great reviews.

Does anybody have any specific suggestions? I have a fairly wide foot, size 11 (hear that, ladies?).

I got Karrimors for Glasto last year and they were fine for a boit from the cheaper end of the market.

And they're even cheaper in SportsDirect.

If I was buying them for serious regular walking I'd avoid Karrimor like the Plague. They are owned by Sports Direct. That said they may be ideal just for few days.
