Essentially, as long as they have Vibram soles and a good waterproof upper the brand probably doesn't matter much. My dad always swears by Scarpa boots but they're pretty expensive and have exactly the same soles as the Karrimor boots I got in a sale for £45.

Brasher Supalites here - were brilliant, though could have done with gaiters one night. a quick lace rinse and rub before taking them off did the trick though

They really are ridiculously light. Held me up when I tried damned hard to twist my ankle too so big thumbs up again

I mean to clean them, but it's only two weeks to Guilfest and that's sapping my motivation

I like the look of them Brasher supalites,I found out to my dismay that my Asolo fugitive gtx were no longer waterproof,Gortex linning doesn't last forever but the stitching on the outside is still intact so had no clue.

I think I'll get a pair of them Brashers for festivals,I don't think they are robust enough for my everyday use but the fact that they are nearly half a kilo lighter than my Asolos and the reviews say they are like wearing a pair of trainers they would be great for jumping around in,it was sheer bliss to finally put my trainers back on on Sunday night for a bit of a boogie and then end the festival on a walk up to the Stone circle to watch the sunrise.

Would suggest trying them in shops first. I bought them and they are absolutely not like trainers for me. They've given me blisters every time I've worn them and had to buy another pair for Glastonbury.

The bloke who wrote Clear Waters Rising - a true story of a man (himself) who walked along the mountain tops from Cape Finisterre to Istanbul in seventeen months without using any motorised transport. In the book he says there's only one walking boot and that's a Brasher. That was it for me, I bought in. I have a pair of Superlites. like slippers they are.

PS - if anybody is in to travelogues then that book really is worth a read. The blokes name is Nicholas Crane. He's an interesting bloke. So is his brother.

I have, just worked this out, 17 year old Doc Marten ankle high boots that I've worn to about 14 Glastonbury Festivals. They have (fingers crossed) never failed me so far. Dubbin each year, love them.

Hmmm,I don't like wearing thick socks,I could wear thin socks with my Asolos from day one and never got blisters, they are for the european market who have thinner feet from northern europeans apparentaly,I favour the slimmer fit.

I had rubber wellies - note RUBBER and not cheap plastic - it makes a HUGE difference and that is why some wellies cost more than others. These I bought a size too big and then fitted some Sorbothane inner soles from eBay. First went on a pair of thin bamboo socks and then some long football ones. Job done. My feet survived the entire festival in the wellies bar the Wed and Thursday when the sun was out. With wellies you just stay clean as only the wellies get dirty... whereas when I'm walking with my walking boots they get dirty, the laces AND my trousers all get dirty... yes gators help but heck what a look that is! At least a nice pair of wellies don't look like you're heading for an expedition to the North Pole or something! :sarcastic:

BUT I will be getting some Brashers for my general walking after all the excellent recommendations they got on this thread.

I had brought some waiders with me on one particular wet Glastonbury. I really was smug with myself being able to walk along and not worry about the mud. That lasted until the mud got a stubborn hold of both my feet. Any attempts to move caused me to fall flat on my face in the mud etc, with the boots still stuck. One of my friends actually filmed the performance on his phone. I only remembered it last night so have therefore emailed him to see if he can get it off the phone so that I could get it put on here. It's more than a nod to slap stick comedy. It's buffoonery at it's finest.

Anyway, I've always worn walking boots since then. I've heard that is my best bet for ensuring that I don't do an encore.

wore walking boots all the time for this year didnt even take my wellys, got on totally fine, comfier and tighter fit so less likly to be sucked off by mud, really dont get why people do wear wellys I wear steel toe capped ones for work so I know how uncomfy they can be wearing for a long time at a strech. unless your walking through mud above ankle height youve no need for them and even if it was you could just get those gator things that strap to the top of your boots and run up your leg.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
