JEFF LYNNE...WHAT ARE THE CHANCES?

Last week Jeff was live on the entire BBC Radio Chris Evans Breakfast Show as a guest along with Jeff Beck. The same day he was again live for the hour long edition of the One Show on BBC1. Both are probably still available on iPlayer.

Yeah he pops up on TV and radio, even played a couple of songs for that children in need gig but he never seems to be close to touring. Sometimes says that he's thought about it but never seems to get around to doing it.

I'd love to be proven wrong though.

A couple of days after on Radio 2 they said they had Jeff Lynne tour news... It turned out just to be his manager saying how Jeff was flattered with so many people still wanting him to tour, how he enjoyed Children In Need and how he might tour sometime in the future. It didn't sound like it would be soon though.

Announced today for Radio 2 in The Park in September.

Raises the possibility of him playing next year, I'd thought the chances of him ever performing were very slim.

The day will be headlined by Jeff Lynne's ELO performing on a festival stage for the first time in 24 years.Talking about his Festival In A Day performance, Jeff said, "I haven’t performed live in quite some time, and I know the fans have asked for it a lot over the years. It’s very exciting to come to Hyde Park with Radio 2 and do something this big, and I’m very much looking forward to playing my ELO songs for everyone."

Hyde Park now sold out. Normally takes them a while if I remember correctly so Jeff & ELO has proved a big pull.

They are still one of the greatest 80's groups imo.

I quite often slip on their greatest hits and it always lifts the mood.

I wonder how far they will take the reformation?

Not very far, two are dead, Bev and Jeff don't talk.

Richard Tandy on keyboards, Jeff on guitar/vocal plus others...

Plus BBC Orchestra

If it's like all the other 'sold out' events there will be more tickets along soon.

Don't forget that Hyde Park for the Libertines 'sold out' by 11am on the first day...... yet you can buy tickets today from the BST website if you want.

Jeff & ELO

Erm ...Jeff *IS* ELO.

I saw something or other in the last year or two which said that he's the sole owner of the ELO name (I think he might have bought-out someone else from the original band who had rights to the name).

I'm guessing it's billed that way because the set will be a mix of songs released under either of those names.

He paid off Bev Bevan who jointly owned the name. I think that all the other band members way back were employees.

And yes he has got two solo albums, I think with another one on the way, to his name.

Sounds right.

I saw a band called The Orchestra (in Disneyworld of all places) in March. The only one I knew was Mik Kaminski. They played all the ELO stuff though. Quite good as well.

Looking forward to seeing Jeff Lynne - got tickets this morning. Normally the Radio 2 festival type things do nothing for me, but the line up is very good this year. Bellowhead and Blondie as well.

i think they used to tour as ELO2, didn't they? (until sometime after I started efestivals in 2000, from what i remember). I'm guessing they had a right to use the name thru Bev Bevan, and that they had to stop using it because he sold up to Jeff.
