Metallica 2014

Its just a balance isnt it. I find now that I cant get into it from a certain distance so then you have to make a judgement call on how far away you can be to not get injured and still be close enough to enjoy it. I remember the early 90s when the front of the Other was a no-go no matter who was on - I managed to get injured during Bjork for gods sake. I really love now that you can be down the front of most stages and not expect any trouble.

The most amusing thing of this sort I have even seen was Iggy Pop at Hop Farm, we had been down the front for Patti Smith I think and then moved back to watch from a distance/get some food but the deckchair/picnic blanket brigade didnt move. How we laughed.

But thats the problem, there will be loads of people ignorant or unfamiliar with the rules. A lot of people will see being pushed and shoved as aggressive and retaliate. Resulting in punch ups at glastonbury. The most depressing thing I can imagine.

You really want to create a metallers v the rest atmosphere?

edit: actually no need to reply to that last question, it seems you arent bothered if you do, so long as you enjoy yourself.

Listen, if 20 or 30 people decide to start a mosh pit at Metallica, move away. Don't stand like a dickhead expecting them to stop for you - just move to a safer place. You dancing to Stevie Wonder is no different to those Metal fans who run around in a circle to a metal band, and that contact they make with each other - I don't expect you to understand, but because you don't understand, it's important you also don't judge, so leave them be and we can all have a good time.

I appreciate the fact you're concerned because of the variety and diversity of people in the audience, and the fact that a Metal fan may run into somebody they don't know and it 'may kick off', but if you're a fan of Dubstep, you'll be in the wrong field whenever Metallica are on the stage anyway. So that being the case, take a step back and let the Metal fans have their dance for a change.

I don't actually have a problem with people doing what they want, as long as it doesn't harm other people around them that do not wished to be harmed it's fine. I don't think nearer the front of the crowd should be exclusively for people who want to push around, nor do I think it should be for people who don't. As long as it doesn't effect anyone then it's fine.

I'm going to go down the front and punch everybody in the face. Then kick everyone in the pisser until they piss everywhere, then throw the piss in everyone's punched face. ROCK!!!! \m/ O \m/

Or I might just stand near the back, arms folded, nodding approvingly at the rock music.

As someone who has attended proper rock shows for years I've always been conscious that being down the front means it will get lively, pushy, the crowd will jump about and you have to be fine with that.

Similar to what 'giantkatestacks' said, I've always dropped back until I've found a place I can most enjoy myself. It's a balancing act between how much space you want and "liveliness" you can deal with and how much you just want to sit back and take it in. But I've found the further back you go the more the atmosphere dips too.

there's a difference between "lively" and pushing other people over though. I understand the concept of vigorous dancing (I was in the crowd for scooby snacks in 98 or whever it was....) but actually laying your hands on another person seems a step too far to me.

I've been going to rock gigs for just over 10 years, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've ever ended on the floor (And one of those times was hilarious and I wish there was a video somewhere).

Edit: And for the record I'm about 5'8 and 10 stone so it's not like the reason for that is because I'm "bigger than the other guy" or whatever.

where are the mosh pit rules?

You're just expected to know them. C**t. If you don't know them it's your own fault for being a c**t. Everybody knows the mosh pit rules. Obviously. C**t.

    • So we've signed a Horny Czech, and Bruno's turned up the training camp instead of doing Isak's nonsense.   Still not sure I believe Bruno's staying mind, but glad he's not doing the sh*t Arsenal are asking him to do to lower the price. If they want him they can stump up.   My suspicion is that whichever of Madrid/Man City don't start next season with Rodri will go for Bruno, and one of them will come in while Arsenal have f**ked about trying to get him cheap, which while I absolutely want to keep him, would still be good enough bants and a nice middle finger that I wouldn't mind it so much. I just wish we'd report Arsenal for tapping up.   If rumours are to be believed, we're after 2 more defensive signings, and an attacking player, on top of a replacement if Bruno leaves, having already signed a LW, 2 CMs, a GK, and some youth players. Huge churn, but apart from a couple of Bazou Toure's games for Ivory Coast at the world cup, I've not seen any of them play. Over 2 summers we've basically changed our entire team aside from the CBs.
    • I think the level of headliners Bloodstock get is varied    There's been bands who have gone on to play Download in quite a low spot like Meshuggah, Behemoth, Opeth etc.    Then they've had years like 2025 where you can argue that all three headliners are download main stage sub level    Knocked Loose right now i'd argue are 3rd down on main/opus headliner level while EC and FFDP are borderline main stage sub
