Neil young is not really radio friendly. Except for repeat playing of harvest moon. One of the greatest artists ever and one of the best to play the pyramid stage. I can't understand how Adele has been mentioned,a proper legend are you serious. She has made two albums. Commercial radio friendly drivel.

I'm not a big fan neither, but that's more because of my musical taste than because of her success,

those figures are the certified units (i.e. Platinum/Gold records) as shown by the music industry (and partially in wikipedia), so nope, they're real!

Adele is a glastonbury legendary headliner waiting to happen to be honest. Once she gets over stage fright, if she ever does.

Metallica will probably be the first and only metal/hard rock band to headline glastonbury though I will add.

Now ACDC is an impossibility

It could open the possibilities for some metal bands which are smaller than Metallica, eg the size of Kasabian and Mumfords who could headline but just not on the Saturday. I wouldn't be able to give any ideas of who because I had my metal phase about 5 years ago haha.

I strongly believe metal is on it's last legs though, you can tell by the way download bump up smaller bands and recycle ones that played only a few years ago. The genre pool is getting smaller and smaller, Bar Black Sabbath I can't think of any credible big metal bands that could do glastonbury.

The is plenty of metal still it's just not a mainstream genre anymore.

Yes. It may have been a watered down version of the genre but the are a lot of massive 'metal' bands from the 70s/80s and '''''''metal''''''' (even more quotation marks) bands from the early 00s.

Yeah not my point, it still exists however the days of it being one of the strongest liked genres are fading. I can't see another huge metal band emerging that will equal that of Metallica or Black Sabbath.

Music, like most things, goes in and out of fashion. A lot of people would have laughed in the early 00s if they heard that 80s inspired synth music would suddenly become popular.

mmm I agree with you, but Music develops in certain directions, with what is popular now... metal seems to be abit of a step backward.

Hmmm not really, a sound that's been missing from the public eye for a while can suddenly sound fresh. And Metal can be changed like any other genre, in the same way 'Nu-Metal' gave a generation appropriate version of 'metal' another variant on the metal formula could revitalize it(though we can all agree Nu-Metal fucking sucked y'all). Deafheaven for example produced a farily successful album last year that combined 'death-metal' and 'shoegaze' and was embraced outside of metal circles.

Wasn't around then so I'll take your word for it I thought the 70's had been dominated by ABBA and the 80's by Queen, but obviously the documentaries lie

Worth considering how the boundary between metal/hard rock has shifted since the 70's and 80's. Metal was probably a wider genre back then. As metal has evolved it's tended to get more extreme as it went from the likes of Black Sabbath to Iron Maiden then Metallica on to bands like Meshuggah or Napalm Death.

Some of the earlier stuff wouldn't really be considered metal by some of todays young metal heads but more like heavy rock.

All metal needs is someone to cross into the boundaries of stadium rock like Metallica did. If Rammstein did English language songs, I reckon they'd be absolutely astronomical in size.

i gave a number of reasons - the most important being that she's a massive mainstream artist, would lead a big singalong of well known hits and the organisers have said she's on the list.

obviously metallica are legendary metal artists....but when have you ever seen metal on the pyramid.
