Nelson Mandela has died

There was a moment during last year's olympics where the south african rowing team managed to beat us to gold, but it didn't matter because the amazing sight of joy amongst black and white south africans was something I once never thought I would see. Nelson Mandela was responsible for that change, plain and simple. Many others fought that battle for decades, but it was Mandela who won the war. His good natured way of communicating, which just sings of peace, means that once you've heard him speak you could never see him as anything other than a force for good.

BBC decides to air coverage on THREE channels... Laughable...

I dunno that it is (tho it's starting to bore me ;)).

On something on TV last night someone said that if Hitler was the bad guy of the last century, then Mandela is undoubtedly the good guy, head and shoulders above everyone else.

I can't disagree. No one comes anywhere close.

I just don't think there was a need to shutdown three channels. Its exactly why they have News 24.... We didn't need BBC One, Two and News 24 all doing the same. But yeah, can't disagree with that... Universally (discounting a couple of racists still knocking about) popular it would seem.

Isn't it amazing how quickly they knock up a load of talking heads for this stuff as well :)

Isn't a lot of it done in advance, as prep?

yep - it was all a bit bleeding obviously that, cos Mandela died after dark last night and lots of those talking heads were speaking in daylight.

Yeah... I am talking about the studio guests mainly who seem to pop up out of nowhere with next to no notice... They announce at 10 and by 10:30 they have eight talking heads across three channels :P Its impressive. Guessing the BBC build a list of go to people and have arrangements in place leading up to this stuff.

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
