Burning Man

I have a friend who goes who loves it - but when asked how it's not like lots of rich Americans showing off what they can do with leds and ply while playing their favourite tunes, he just said you had to be there

It's tempting in a tourist way though

I have had a desire to go to this festival for many years now. Looks a bit like it may have gone up it's own arse in recent years though from the feedback I have read on it. Thing is, I'll never find out what it's like, as it's more than likely that I'll never travel to the USA.

i really fancy going to burning man..it looks pretty incredible...amazing setting, and the work the people put into the experience is something else (i've been following the reviews/videos the last few years when i first became aware of the event

.its just the cost of it that really that puts me.

think your talking £4k+ to do that (travelling from uk when you factor in the flights / RV etc)..

If money were no object then there'd be a lot of fests I'd love to go to, Burning Man wouldn't exactly be top of the list, but it'd be definitely up there, as far as American fests go anyway.

Used to be really into the idea of going to Burning Man, but I've kind of lost interest of it seeing as it's incredibly expensive, but I like the idea of it though, everyone getting involved and the bring your own supplies thing.

It's been my lifelong ambition to get to Fuji Rock one day as well, would absolutely love to go there.

This reminds me. I bought one a few months ago and have not checked it (buy one ever now and then when the fancy takes me)

I will dig that out later, if it's still around.

I will now spend the rest of the afternoon convinced I have won and what I will do with it all.

I could go from foolish poor to foolish rich :crazy:

My wife meet 2 Guys from Japan at Glastonbury, who came over for the festival. The one thing that struck them about Glastonbury was the crowds and how we all interact with easch other. They said Fuji the crowds really stick the people they are with with very little interaction.

Be interesting to experience

In my mind I envision dancing in the desert to exotic techno wearing some sort of glowing furry outfit with beautiful women dressed as birds. The reality is I would probably get sunstroke due to my pale complexion and end up in the nearest medical tent!

Its probably not as good as it used to be though :nyam::nyam:

You can get tickets and the trip arranged through this outfit;

http://www.greentortoise.com/adventures/burning-man-art-festival.php

Note - you need to read all their small print as I am led to believe they pull some stunts on customers financially. It would seem that prices quoted do not include entrance tickets themselves which are an add on cost, but they do have them. See link below for one persons not so great experience;

Here's another persons post on how to do Burning man from the UK

Thanks for the info whisty, but Canada will not let me in either. I bought a little bit of dope off the street in my youth. I merrily drove away from the deal until a car screeched in front of me, another behind me and yet another to the side of me (hemming me in so that I couldn't open the drivers door). They were undercover police and I got busted. Can't travel to the USA or Canada as a result. It's no great shakes though as, apart from attending the Burning Man festival, I've never had any desire to go to either country. The Far East is much more my cup of tea for long haul travel. :)

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
