Chippenham: it's that damn a350. Down our way everything seems to cross it.

Wife tells me to shut it frequently in Chippenham. Find myself singing Tom Waits Town With No Cheer whenever I'm there.

At least Devizes has the Wadworth brewery.

On the subject of DIY and tools I had a tidy up of the garage a couple of weeks back. Got tons of tools I don't remember buying and some I now have no idea what they're for. Wife and I spent quarter of an hour trying to figure out what a white widget was for before realising it was part of the packaging the MacBook had come in.

I used to love fairy lights when I was a kid, one of my fondest memories is of going on a camping trip somewhere with my grandparents in their camper van, and the campsite had strung fairy lights along the river bank.

And apart from the music, my one favourable memory of Reading was the fairy lights.

I'm not so keen on those flashing neon signs though - they stress me out.

What is it with men and tools? I can't imagine ever going into a DIY store and salivating at the power drills. I definitely wouldn't impulse buy.

On the other hand, I do have several wardrobes full of useless clothes that I like to collect, admire and never wear :(

The beer itself is top stuff. Yr ability to get it back on the stand is invesely proportional to how much of it you've drunk.

My local Tesco stocked it for a while but has now stopped. I suspected this was due in part to the fact that it was only me buying it as the number of bottles on the shelves didn't go down each week.

Anybody got access to it (apart from the interweb of course)?

Ans whilst Im at it ....

big shout out to "Old Tom" and "Old Engine Oil" - 2 cracking ales. Both a bit strong but loads of taste (I think both have chocolate of all things added). Recommended

I think it might have something to do with our very strict building regs,I was in Honfleur,Normandy a few years ago,it is a very charming medieval port but I did notice on a lot of the old buildings that they had pvc windows and other modern things, plastic drain pipes etc, that would never be allowed in this country,so to build our castles like for like and not use cheaper alternatives would be too expensive.

I dont know this of course and could be talking absolute drivel, its just what I noticed.

Caerphilly Castle.

http://www.castlewales.com/caerphil.html

I have a nice pleasant walk through it every time I need to visit our town centre.

It also hosts several social events. the Big Cheese and firework displays, battle reenactments etc..

The firework display around Guy Fawkes night is superb, notably because when crowds converge on the castle with their light-up torches, it's like a scene from a horror film - the villagers silently converging on their satanic meeting with their flaming torches.

That's how I like to imagine it, anyway :)

Hey FC, Caerphilly is my local castle too. I live about three miles away. We must meet up at some time to put faces to EFesters.

If you're in this part of the world I'd also recommend my final fest of the season - the Croissant Neuf Summer Party in Usk. No big names but a delightful fest and you can also do day tickets.

Talking of food, apparently psychologists are once again questioning free will. This time, it's based on research that shows we're more likely to indulge in risky behaviour if we're hungry, even if the behaviour doesn't provide food.

the idea is that we're fairly basic animals, so evolutionary benefit is gained by us becoming more daring when we're at risk from malnutrition. So that dangerously expensive joint of beef down the supermarket is less of a perceived threat to our wallet, the more we need to buy it (you get my drift).

But because evolution is imprecise, we don't just increase risk in order for the payoff of satiating hunger and avoiding starvation. We take risks in other ways too,

Good enough reason not to diet then :)

Makes sense. Ever go shopping while starving? If I go after the gym I often return home with carrier bags full of assorted beasts and cakes and biscuits

Go shopping when you are stuffed. You can't be bothered and you think more logically and so you get the necessities and sod the extras.

    • Definitely see this as being 'weak' on paper but could see a few bumps up from previous sets at Download (Don Broco, Neck Deep etc).
    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.

    • I don't think I'm alone as a Scotland fan that there is no way that I could possibly fall asleep knowing we're about to play our first World Cup game in 28 years! Pure adrenaline is keeping me wide awake (and plenty of rum)!
