There is no way Ted will be playing. Let's get that out of the way for stirrers.

Whether the band play without him is a different matter but knowing they are very tight knit, have been together since school, and this is the biggest gig of their lives makes that unlikely.

And although not surprised, to see some of you celebrating this young man's illness simply because it means they may not be playing a gig you wouldn't have watched anyway is shameful.

Before anything else, let's just wish him a speedy recovery eh?

obviously we don't have a lot of facts, but if it's as bad as it sounds - i.e. the guy is having brain surgery 2 weeks before they have to headline - then they should pull out now.

It would be unfair to go on without their friend, and it's unfair on the festival not to allow them time to book someone else.

It's unfortunate for the band, but they still might get to headline T in the Park, and there will be chances for Glastonbury in future years.

Hope the guys recovers quickly and without problems.

If these chaps play on without their bandmember who has just had life-saving surgery they're the lowest of the low. Theyve a long career ahead of them and can easily re-schedule.

On the other hand it could be a minor snip and the fella is back in the mix after a week.

Doubt it though.

though it is very late in the game to get somebody new to headline, i think the organisers will do their very best to make that happen over bumping somebody up. regardless of the circumstances being out of their control, giving a sub / whoever the bump up doesn't look very good - especially with this years subs who aren't exactly headline-material / going to appease the pissed off Mumfords fans

they may be left with no other option but to give a bump but i reckon they'll be on the phones to everybody right now to try and get somebody else if Mumfords do in fact pull out

To see a under par under staffed under prepared Mumford and sons will be far far worse than seeing a last minute Damon Albarn or Thom York & co etc etc etc

I say they should be honest now if their uncertain. Blood clot depending how severe could be treated with a blast of anti coagulation such as heparin but I guess he won't be in gig shape and will need a doctor to declare fitness

Think their options are basically - Primal Scream, Dizzie Rascal (2 most likely), or a move from the Other of either Smashing Pumpkins, Foals or Portishead (Chase and Status not suited, and The XX not right for that slot - probably think they would have had SP headlining the other if The XX didn't suck in the daytime).

My money would be on Primal Scream.

there has been a Glastonbury before where headliners have dropped out at shorter notice, ie during the festival. i don't remember which year it was or who dropped out but Ash stepped up.

well they might have stepped up, i didn't watch, so it could have been shit.

I don't think it would be that awful if they played without him. Provided his surgery goes to plan and all and that's what he wants. If I were in his position then I would definitely encourage them to play. It would be good for the band after all, which would be good for him too.

Unless they can definitely play next year, I think it would be silly of them not to do it.

Didn't think about Primal Scream, that would probably be the most crowd-pleasing shout.

    • I honestly didn't know it had, I still thought it was where the view overlooked the lake and view.   I think my decision not to attend this year at least was justified. Biffy was the big draw but after Finsbury I knew they wouldn't play what I want to hear again and well work also got in the way. Believed interesting to hear if Libertines were any good as they were also a pull but Sunday did nothing for me really with all my acts on Friday and Saturday.

    • I hate tradmill running with a passion lol. Yeah the 1km reps are the one along with hill reps. That's what I did last time.  It's very a very hot summer and job circumstances to stay at the consistent level I was for the marathon earlier in the year. I've got a full set of the main distance new PBs this year. 10k isn't a problem most days but even today I went out deciding just over 5 mile was enough between recovery cruise and steady.
    • There is also a solid argument from Seventeen already that not enough people actually care if they book them also.
