I'm sure I've posted this here a few times before, but it's more relevant than ever now. One of the best things I've ever overheard at glasto (in thick Bristolian accent for full effect)...

"My dad did some work on Rolf Harris' house. Supposedly he's a right c**t!"

Turns out he was right too.

But ... Rolfie was a helluva charmer on stage. I've just posted this on youtube. Maybe he'll be humming it in the clink. He was multitalented, and in more ways that two inncocent ones, art and music. anyways, 'ere's 'arris. Here he is on Glasto's Jazzworld stage, now West Holts, of course, in 2009. He had a huge crowd and was back a year or so later, this time on the Pyramid. Loads had to be turned away at Jazzworld; it was jampacked.

I got told off by a friend for calling him at paedo at Glastonbury '10. I always thought there was 'something of the night' about him, he was just too good to be true.

Having said that, I missed Savile completely - just thought he was a bit grubby - and Stuart Hall was a real shocker, so what do I know?

I never liked him as a child since the day I noticed he'd actually pre drawn all his pictures in light pencil on Rolfs Cartoon Club, and was simply tracing over the lines with a marker pen while pretending he was drawing them spontaneously.

See I always thought Savile was nasty (didn't realise quite how nasty admittedly) but I hate this revisionist history that people write after these things come out. I watched Rolf in 2010 and loved it. He was funny and entertaining and I feel guilty about it now but he was one of my highlights of that weekend.

I think it's time we admit that sometimes people get away with these kind of things because they are very talented at manipulating people and also because human behaviour is not black and white there are many shades of grey. Somebody can be a pedophile and kind to animals and friendly and polite and charming and talented. Nobody is 100% evil not even Jake Bugg! ;)

I always thought Rolf was an oddball and said so on here many times and took a bit of verbal for it. Never knew he was such a c**t though.

I never went to see him at Glasto despite him apparently being the greatest thing since sliced bread. I was told to go see him in the same way people tell people to watch Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad.

He is being sentenced at midday. Hope they throw away the key. Some of the websites hes been visiting are worthy of jail time. And hes not even being charged with that.

I'm with you on hoping he comes out of jail in a box and if you always did think he was dodgy good for you. I've just seen a lot of people say this who I know didn't and it pisses me off because it avoids the big issue which is that it is possible for people like this to hide in plain sight. People can be fooled.

I didnt think he was a paedo really. Just a bit...off.

Saville though. Fucks sake. How he got away with it is beyond me. So many people must have known?!

Yes but look what happened to that Home Office investigation into paedophilia at Westminster - 'lost' or 'destroyed'.

Similarly Savile had good friends in the right places and no social media to contend with.

There was a good piece by Simon Hattenstone in the Guardian yesterday - he interviewed Harris, Savile and Clifford over the years, and his conclusion was that they all had an air of invincibility and a desire, almost, to be found out. They were also worth a lot of money to a lot of people...

Savile seemed an open secret though. So many people did ask him about it. The only thing that shocked me about it was the access he got to vulnerable people. I always assumed he had a thing for underage girls just thought that he managed to find willing victims (of the groupie sort) rather than forcing himself upon vulnerable girls with collusion from others.

I worked with a couple of broadcasters of similar standing in their latter years. They were fawned over even as they openly letched after women a third their age, could express any opinion without fear of rebuke and were, of course, utterly charming and professional 95% of the time. The power of celebrity is a real thing. 'Don't upset the talent' looks like a rather ironic mantra these days.

    • A question has crossed my (questionable) mind;   Has the size of the Green Fields remained the same as other areas have expanded / been added on to, since say, 2014 (the last time that I attended)? Are they 'lost' within, or well attended?    That's actually two questions. The second one just slipped in at the end by taking advantage of my lack of means to stop it.
