I know Liverpudlians who have no connection to the tragedy (and who weren't even born) but who still jump on the bandwagon in order to seem important and to give them some identity. Sort of like the cretins who sing about the IRA without any knowledge of the situation or history because they like being in a big masculine group. Are these people not ripe for parody? Or are they forever protected because they choose to latch onto and use a sensitive issue?

I get personally offended by all sorts of stuff. But it doesn't matter. I get on with my day. It takes far more effort to get upset about a comment on a website by someone I don't know than it does to shrug it off

Think the subject in question genuinely strikes a raw nerve for many, including me and I'm obv not from there.

Given how maligned the city and her people is - clearly visible on this thread but also regularly on these fora over the years - I applaud those who openly voice their displeasure at cheap gags on the issue.

That is despite broadly agreeing with your point.

I once saw Jim Davidson taking the piss out of black people on prime time Saturday night tele.

Tough one that.......

there's telling jokes to try and cause pain to others, and there's telling jokes because something is funny.

Is there nothing funny about you? Similarly, is there nothing funny that can be said about cerebral palsy or its sufferers?

It's not only people with cerebral palsy who can find these things funny in people with cerebral palsy - as that self-defined 'spastic' made exceedingly clear. :)

Thats the question ain't it? Of course I have no idea of the answer. But like other things - you know it when you see it.

Theres nothing the Irish like more than someone winding them up about our daft idiosyncacies and hypocracy. But comics arent falling over one another in the rush to do "Famine" gags over here.

    • My understanding is that the queues returning back to the UK will be much worse (up to two hours) but the queue entering Lisbon isn’t so bad. That’s just from reading a few forum posts about it though so take it with a pinch of salt!

    • World Cup 2026: What is happening with ticket prices? - BBC Sport   Sounds like Infantino has been learning from his buddy if he's running around claiming its all sold out while quietly dumping tickets below face on assorted secondary websites.
    • Mac DeMarco also cancelled
    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
