David Bowie

Went to the exhibition last month. Was so good, the man's an utter genius.

I'd love nothing more than seeing him live on the pyramid next year, he'd no doubt be brilliant and i love the new stuff as well so a mix of new and older classics would make for a fantastic setlist.

Also went to David Bowie is ... At V&A yesterday. Have to admit to a tear in the eye at watching the Glastonbury footage with Heroes and remembering the atmosphere. Totally overcrowded that year of course with the fence down and it got very scary at some points but he was my highlight of 2000.

Finally got round to watching Five Years on iPlayer, even though I'm much more a Ziggy Stardust fan than a Bowie fan, I'm really enjoying this far more than Jarivs' Ziggy doc the other month. It's making me want to brush the dust off and delve into all the other Bowie records that I thought "yeah, this is great, but it's not my thing".

Actually I've never listened to Low at all! It's his only album from the 70's I've listened to, so it'd probably be a good place to go next with Bowie. I've seen Heroes through new eyes lately, so it makes sense to listen to the rest of the Berlin trilogy too.

I was decidedly underwhelmed by the 5 Years documentary. The live version they used of Heroes must be just about the worst recorded version of anything... ever..

and Charlie Murray... I think that's quite enough now

Did he not play Station to Station in 2000? Or am I remembering that wrongly?

One of the best memories EVER, seeing him at Glastonbury.

5 year documentary still on SKY waiting to be watched.

minor interesting Bowie fact (just reminded by listening to the opening..)

the audience sound behind Bowie saying "this ain't rock n roll, this is genocide" (Diamond Dogs) was lifted from The Faces live album.. just before the crowd fades down, you can hear Rod going "wahey..."

For some reason years earlier, (before 2000) somebody told me that Bowie had sworn not to ever play 'the old' stuff ever again live. Not sure if it was ever true but it made 2000 so awesome because everytime a new song started I thought: NEVER! and then it was !

Ahhh, good times.

It's similar to Heroes in that the 2nd half is instrumental, but I think the first half is flawless. I really love it. Sound and vision is also brill if you ask me. I prefer Low to lodger and heroes

Though a lot of people would disagree I'm sure!

I wonder why he picked that album to play so much of? I mean it's a great album but I'm pretty sure Low is his personal favourite, and there are others that are more commercially/critically acclaimed than station to station. Wonder what made him go for that one?

not that I'm complaining like!

    • Generally shorter too, I imagine. 🙂
    • Will that work for arenas with seats? People will have their tickets on their phones and needs to find their seat.
    • Excellent new release from overpass today - well worth checking out.
    • Having lived here for 2 and a half years now my take is that security, safety and organisation are just not a priority in Spain. It's not even exclusive to festivals. It's a part of everything.   Simple example. I'm Irish and in Ireland if you assemble a construction site you have to adhere to a lot of regulations about cordoning off the site so nobody can enter and get injured. Here, you're walking down the foot path and suddenly without any warning you're in a construction site. If not, you'll suddenly find yourself directed onto the road to get around the construction.   Life is more laid back here in general. Pros and cons.
