Tried to watch Last Stand earlier, awful, had to turn it off, was thinking THIS is your comeback film Arnie? This?

His last okayish film was 1994 and True Lies. And even that required James Cameron.

His last good film was 1991 and Terminator 2. And again, that's thanks to James Cameron.

Remove Cameron, Paul Verhoven, and John McTiernan from the roster and his career is a big pile of shit.

Running Man and Predator are classic 80's joyride movies too.

I dunno - Arnie also makes shit films watchable somehow. Twins, Jingle All The Way, Kindergarten Cop and Batman & Robin and the like are somehow, SOME. HOW. watchable because of Arnie's presence.

Take him out of any of his movies and they all lose something.

But yeah Terminator he will always be.

Yes, Arnie does make shit films watchable. The films are still shit though. Watch Total Recall and then Running Man. Vast difference. Yes, RM is okay in a cheap, cheesy, obvious, and meaningless way... but compared to TR?

It's the difference between Vanilla Ice and Public Enemy.

Take Arnold out of RM and put another actor in, it's just a shit film of men in lycra running around microscopic sets obviously made from airbrushed balsa wood (something you'll notice on a rewatch). The big "twist" was... they didn't really let the convicts go? Wow. Take Arnold out of the original TR and it's still an overwhelming, mind-bending spectacle.

I agree completely that Predator IS a classic. It's one of his defining films. It's one of the best sci-fi films ever made. But that was of course a John McTiernan film - I listed him for that reason. Even without Arnie it would have been a stone-cold classic. The film was good.

Terminator(s), Predator, Total Recall. These are Arnold's undisputed classics, and all of them required the best-of-the-best directors at the top of their game who were unafraid to use lashings of gore, swearing, and sci-fi.

The only good Superman film was Superman 3... because it convinced a studio there was merit in giving Richard Pryor a lot of unexpected money - leading to Brewster's Millions...

Not sure what to make of Man Of Steel, I enjoyed it as a big blockbuster flick and there some real nice touches (especially how it started) but it doesn't really feel like Superman particularly with how it ends.

Watching 'As Good As It Gets' on five right now,such a great film with a fantastic cast.So many early appearances from people in small roles that went on to be stars in their own right aswell.

Just watched Man Of Steel.

I DID enjoy it. It was a bit po-faced at times, needed the odd joke and less of the frowning morose post 9-11 thing that all films seem to require now. I am sick of seeing the military in films - and the reverence they lavish to them, I hate feeling like I'm being sold a load of propagandist horseshit.

I loved Faora though purely because she's that psycho from Arrested Development.

Gimme the comic book nonsense of The Avengers any day though. A good sense of humour makes films rewatchable - especially action movies. Die Hard, Terminator 2, Avengers, Back To The Future they all manage it. The original Superman movies were goofy but they're hugely rewatchable.

South Park fans will be glad to note that Russell Crowe starts a fight within 5 minutes at the start. It's also quite apt that his son gets a job on a tugboat haha!

Watched Holy Motors at the weekend. Quite possibly the strangest film I have ever seen. But for a surrealist film it is surprisingly watchable.

I am sure I heard it was made by the bloke who made the kill list, which was like bad acid with a hangover for me. He is a talented film maker, but blimey, I felt bad at the end of that film.

Yeah Pacific Rim is pretty good, it just takes a while to get going but when it does it's fucking great.
