Tuesday night at Glasters

What I missed from that, having just re-noticed the thread title, is that it's not necessarily the case that all car park entrances will be open on the Tuesday night, so that might stuff your plans to get into a particular car park.

All the same with a bit of planning you should be able to ensure that you end up parked in the car park (that's open, anyway) nearest to where you want to camp.

No worries on that front Neil. I usually use a Travel Lodge Tuesday night then drive to the site early Wednesday morning by which time I presume all the car parks and gates are open.

in theory (it doesn't always happen, bloody hippies ), as far as I'm aware all of the car park entrances should be open by the time the gates into the festival proper open on the Wednesday, if not earlier - so it sounds like you should be fine.

How do the queue sizes develop on Tuesday night? I know the car parks open at about 8, but when do people start queuing? The thought of queuing for around 10 hours without moving makes me feel sick but if we turned up at around 5am, what time would we get through the gate? In time enough to get a decent spot in pennards for about 10 of us?

In 2011 we arrived at about 6:30am on the Wednesday . There was 7 of us in the group and the Que was beginning to form in the field I parked in W36 hoping to get into gate D It was all quite leisurely at this time the banter was good and we stood in line

But It took us 7 hours to get in it was a nightmare 3 heavey downpours and the ground turned to quagmire.I know friends who went by coach later that day and more or less walked right in We finally got our tents pitched about 2.30pm and promptly went to bed for a few hours We camped on the Dairy Ground near gate E it was a bit to far away for me especially on friday night after watching U2 it took me over an hour in the mud to get back to the tent. But we did seem to have a bit more space around out tents than some of the other fields you walk through All I'm saying is it does't always pay to get there to early We are going again this year though as the rest of it makes up for it

I don't think so. Arguably more space is needed. Certain space has been siphoned off, and capacity has been increased, so I think the two options are either reducing capacity, or expanding space, and considering how close things run for Glasto financially, i'm not sure reducing capacity is viable.

Edit: I've just realised you meant timing.

With regards to timing, it's more value for money in my opinion. There's a lot of stuff to experience, and not a lot of time, especially if you're going to music as well. The Wed/Thur are perfect, espec for newbies, so that you can refind yourself sitewise.

Some of the queing times on here give me the heebie jeebies!

I've done Glasto twice, but worked at both, worked at Campervan west and Wicket Gate so I've never really experienced the proper Glasto queue before!

We are staying in Glastonbury Town on the Tuesday night for a decent kip and pretty early start to get to the site before 8am (hopefully) I'm praying that we won't be waiting as long as some have previously mentioned!!

I have mates staying in the CV field (I'm not staying in the cv, hoping to camp in Park Home Ground) but was wondering if it is possible to park up on the tuesday night (in one of the west car parks) and then walk across to the CV west to meet up with mates and kip in their cv on the tues night and then enter the site through gate E on the weds morning to pitch up my tent??

The last few years have been a total nightmare queuing to get in so I'm trying to think of more leisurely solutions!!!

This will be our first year at Glasto and I'm going to try and persuade the others to drive down on the Tuesday night after reading about the queue's on here (all of the major festivals we've been to we have worked at so used to just walking straight into the crew camping).

If you join the Tuesday queue is it usually a case of queueing with all your stuff and hoping it doesn't get too wet or do people usually just take a chair and brolly and take it in turns to pop back to their car for bags and tents a couple of hours before gates open?

Also, in the past has there been specific car parks opening at specific times on the Tues/ Weds as we obviously want to be as close to the campsite as possible. We were thinking of heading for Michael's mead so were wondering which car park would be closest/ easiest (I hate hills).

Is the que to go out and go back in the same as the Arrivals queue?

I'm tempted to just sit in the queue with my tent a chair and some beer, leave my stuff in the car, get in, set up and then have a stroll around the site and back to the car without worrying about making sure I get a decent space with all my stuff

yes the stewards were pointing them another way to get in, but only if you had a band on its the same all weekend

Yup we've been back in down the you've already been in queue now granted it was mid afternoon so it wasn't to bad with other folk waiting to get in on the main one, but there was still some queuing, felt pretty bad but not enough to say, actually let me just wait, as its been a fair trek back to the car, so I'm usually just let me f**kin back in with all this crap please

Last time, we went for a pint in Pilton on the Monday then back into Glasto town for a pre pre meet at George and pilgrims, it's very odd having access to Pilton during (kind of) festival times nowadays

Definitely do the Tuesday night, prolong the time you're at Glastonbury, real buzz of an atmosphere in the car parks time to just chill have a beer and mingle with people plus you avoid heavy traffic and if you're at the front of the car park it makes leaving time easier

whats the queues into the east CV fields like around Weds mid-PM? are you likely to be parked up in one of the fields quite far from the gate? presume then join the queue to get onto the site?

However, my Mum is going in a different car and they want to arrive in the car park Tuesday night and sleep in the car. I've got 2 questions: 1) I'm coming from Ilminster whereas Mum is coming from Ipswich. I've looked and it looks like I'll end up in the blue route based on previous routes-does anybody have any idea where my Mum will end up? 2) We want to camp somewhere near the Big Ground and the plan is to meet and camp together- we're both taking trolleys so it shouldn't take too long but does anybody know if once I'm parked, I can walk to her car park to meet her and all go in together or do we need to go in to the site when the gates open and meet each other in there?
