Me and my friends were discussing going to america when we are all 21, most of them wanted to go to coachella,

has anyone on the site been before? I understand that it would be quite pricey and a lot of saving would be needed, id just like to know if it would be worth it

Burning man might have peaked. For this coming year the tickets sold out in no time at all, and apparently 70% of ticket holders have never been before.

I imagine its probably going to lose a lot of its charm with people not knowing how it works and having the wrong attitude to it. There's also real concern that the n00bs won't bring enough water and wont respect the strict "leave no trace" policy. I know a couple of people who are burning man regulars and they're really concerned about this year. It could just be snobbery on their part though.

I've been to Coachella, a few years ago to see the flaming lips (who were fucking amazing)

Now I really dont want to piss on your chips here but I wouldnt go again. The main reason is the draconian drinking rules. There are designated drinking pens to the out of the way of the stages. Yes, you cannot stand watching the bands while drinking alcohol. This killed it for me. I saw loads of people wrestled to the ground by security and (I assume) kicked out for trying to drink on the sly. I cant do a festival without having alcohol in my hands permanently. Getting tanked up, going to see a band and sobering up a bit, then going back to try and get drunk again is impossible and really draining. The heat didnt help, you drink loads of water so sober up hugely.

Also the dust is extreme. I was hacking up clumps of this horrific black stuff for ages afterwards and had gritty black bogies for even longer!

The heat is intense. Now I dont mind the heat, but this is something to consider.

But the heat, the dust, that's bearable. The drinking rules were not. I had to rely on picking up "other substances" in there and everything I got hold of was terrible. Plus I was terrified of being caught and sent to the electric chair or something. The american legal system is terrifying!

The other upside is it seemed to be full of amazing looking women. Puts the glastonbury goers to shame I'm afraid to say.

As for Burning Man, I know some people who always used to go but stopped a couple of years ago when it became "trendy" and all the rich kids from california turned up. File under It's Not As Good As It Used To Be alongside glastonbury. Wish I'd gone when it was wild and spontaneous, but I could never afford the cost back then. Typical that now I can afford to do these hedonistic things, I am too old and boring to be able to be a part of it properly!

Fair enough Coachella has (normally) great weather and a great line up but I don't fancy going at all. What's the point in going to a fest where you can't stand with a beer in your hand? Pointless.

      If the rumours coming out of the U2 camp are correct (big stadium world tour) then think they're more likely to do Wembley, Twickenham, etc as they'll be able to bring their own production and typically like to go big.

      I don't think they are too big for Castlefield these days. They've not had a new album for almost a decade and they like playing smaller venues. Maybe multiple nights is another option as they do like residencies

      made a last minute decision to go to Belladrum festival.   it was absolutely wonderful.   never been before, to be honest I think I was expecting a stage in a field and a burger van, but its nothing at all like that.   the site is beautiful, its small enough to get around, but big enough that there are things to discover round each corner, there are a good number of small stages tucked away.   you could quite easily convince yourself you were in Glastonbury in places.   I may have only been one time, but already learned a valuable lesson - the site itself may be Glastonbury like, but the "general camping" campsite is very much Reading like! as the morning mist rises... its a view like the Do Lung Bridge scene in Apocalypse Now...   so if you are not 15 years old, go to family or quiet camping which is fantastic.   its a real family friendly festival to - loads of families and kids of all ages running round and stuff for them to do.   I would 100% recommend it, and I really can't see any reason why I wont be going back next year!   🙂
