But so have Beady Eye, Klaxons, Gossip, Babyshambles, The Tears, The View, etc. Booking bands off the back of a single successful album, or one other redeeming feature (having someone from a previous band, like Racounteurs Beady Eye or Babyshambles, or in this case winning the mercury prize) gets you to the top spot. It's not an unusual booking in any form.

NME headliners have never been massive bands - about equivalent to between 4th and 5th main. The quality of the band is subjective, but the size is not. Alt-J are probably about as popular as Maccabees were. Maybe it was a bit of a premature booking, but it made sense for them

V announcing on Monday next week 25/02/13. At least we will know who will not be playing lower down the bill at R&L by then.

End of feb 2013 is when the presale at last years prices I'd expect the R&L announcement the Monday of the following week 04/01/13. Unless the promoters try and force another announcement out before V announces.

Is any one still bothered about V? A fest who books Niki Minaj surely has problems.

I think you'll be correct on the prediction 04/01/2013 if you meant 01/04/2013.[/quote

Well no, but considering that bands don't play both it's a great indication of who is out of the running and who people were expecting at R&L turn up at V.

NME headliner size is weird. I mean, FNM would have been 2nd or 3rd mainstage if they'd played on it, yet they got a small crowd as NME headliner. A lot of people here were hoping for Soundgarden, who could probably have subbed a heavy band at the top of the order. Some of the new one-album bands who headline have a comparable level of popularity to 3rd, yet you get other bands who would only just about get 5th on main. I don't think you can directly compare NME headliner size to mainstage position.

Bloc Party still don't have dates past early July, I doubt they'll play. Coupled with the fact they'd have to play the same slot they've already played twice, just can't see it happening.

Think V will get YYYs as well, their strange tour dates cover Leeds and Reading areas but not Vs. Would make more sense for them to do that, to not compete with themselves.

Dizzee Rascal subbing Eminem makes sense I suppose, but seems like a lot of Hip Hop on the first year where there's a stage dedicated to it don't you think?

I will still be enormously disappointed if Fall Out Boy sub, that would just be ridiculous. I'm hoping against hope they will be 3rd.
