I didn't say R&L is getting more metalz/rawk acts as like I said there isn't enough bands out there (with Soni saying they couldn't get headliners in their statement) and it will probably be the same as always for R&L.

Having more rock/metal is not the way reading/leeds is going to go, or have I misunderstoof the direction they want to go?

Would be interesting if download get another festival to rival it, saying that though more and more people are interested going into europe and theres festivals like wacken, rock am, graspop etc etc. So those festivals could be there competition.

I honestly cant see reading/leeds all of a suddent having an influx of metal/rock like it used to in the 90s.

As i've been saying since Download started (and Copping hates hearing), there's barely the bands or longterm audience for one big rock/metal fest in the UK, so it would always going to be hugely difficult with two. Sooner or later one was always going to drag the other under.

R/L won't expand to fill the gap, as that would just take away from a festival with ultimately the same owner.

And how much would that cost? £250? £275? Far too much money. All it means is that there is a larger pool of bands to choose from. Remember that it only started in 2009.

Couldn't see it going over £250. And I'd much rather pay £250 for a four day fest than £210 for a three day one. In fact R+L should hit £250 in five years anyway at this rate.

Ultimately, it's very unlikely as it'd be even more difficult than it is now to maximise profits. It's just, like thetime has said, the UK is missing a festival with four days of acts, and also FR has always been ambitious of how it would like R+L to be.

TBH I think a new 2 day festival has a better chance to do well than a new 4 day fest, with the extra day meaning even more time off from work and with so many fests it will just mean a weaker line up overall by stretching it. I'm not sure why people saying there's any kind of gap in the fest market, it's stupidly overlaoded.

It would mean a significant change to the license, one that's unlikely to be granted just like that.

There's a reason why UK festivals are almost always limited to three days of music, Soni being shitcanned again won't change that.

Wouldnt a 4 day fest offer something different? Weaker lineup because its stretched over 4 days? There wouldnt have to be many more bands, longer sets would be a good thing.

Im thinking more about reading extending to 4.

Deepnds on what's on the 4th day, I wouldn't go "wow, it's 4 days" but a shorter a fest may be more tempting due to convenience like Wireless where I have gone to a few times before because of that reason.

Either way of longer sets you're stil stretching by having the 4th day, R&L already has trouble with headliners with people complaining every year that's there a (or more) weak headliner add another day and you've only going to get a bigger problem.

I see your point jump, I just think it would be good. Most people are there on the thursday anyway if not earlier.

Even if its a half day of music for an extra 30/40 quid must be a good idea. Got to be better than listening to a dodgy dj in a tent or sittinf around your tent.

There are some smaller bands who play at leeds on the Thursday. Also would it have to be the Thursday if there were ever to be an extra day? I could be wrong but one year wasnt there music playing on the Monday?

I don't think that's true, especially not in recent years. I think the primary reason for going to R&L, shown by the large majority of the audience, is the timing. Move R&L away from exam results time, I think it would be very interesting to see what happens.
