chase and status

this isn't one of those 'devils-horns throwing/they're not proper metal' type threads.musically,i don't know about anything non-rock so i've no idea how big these guys are.

I'm just genuinely wondering if chase and status are big enough to sub-headline the main stage?

the other two sub-headliners are-

Biffy clyro- headlined sonisphere last year, play huge arenas on their headline tours, large album sales.

Soundgarden- grunge legends, one of the biggest rock reunions of the year, first time in uk for over 15 years.

are chase and status on the same level? have they a large fanbase? what size venues do they play when they tour? bigger/smaller than biffy?

as i said, its not a dig at them,i genuinely have no idea.

They're quite big. Them subbing Prodigy would be considered right at a lot of major festivals.

They're the smallest of the 3. But then the other 2 are exceptional subs. It's slightly high, but not a ridiculous placing size wise. It's more surprising considering they're out-of-genre rather than because of their general popularity.

They really are shit though.

i've tried to get into them, but i just cant seem too! but i'll give them a watch at Download and judge them for myself. instead of moaning and bitching about them on the FB Download page.

i'm not bitching about them either,i'll just go to another stage.simple.

i suppose i do see the point that people are making though, that giving a prime slot to a dance band could be considered a waste of a slot that could have gone to a top rock band(it is a rock festival after all).

can't blame the people slagging them off i suppose,i reckon Iron Maiden being given a top slot at creamfields instead of a high-rated dance act would get the dance community in all of a flap as well.

I

perhaps andy copping is has seen the popularity and crossover appeal of pendulum and somehow thinks chase and status fall into this catagory.

either that or he thinks that rock fans didnt buy enough tickets last year so he is trying to attract dance fans to make up the shortfall.

I don't think the addition of 1 band will really attract any dance fans to a full weekend of rock music. I think its more to appeal to the younger crowd who have an interest in rock and dance acts like C&S, and might be the tipping point for people not hugely interested in some of the heavier bands of the weekend.

Is there anyone else who watches that above video and waits for it to actually kick in? The song just does't seem to go anywhere?

I know very little of Chase n Status but I don't like what I've heard.

Andy still hasn't said who will be playing up against them yet, but I hope its someone I like.

I don't think Chase n Status should in that slot, aren't they about as popular as Pendulum were in 2009 when they were 3rd down? I think the only reason they're 2nd instead of 3rd is cus Chase n Status into Machinehead into Prodigy doesn't flow as well. Otherwise Machinehead are clearly the bigger act.

It depends how you define bigger, but there a lot more people out there who'll know the name Chase & Status then Machine Head and a lot more people who'd recognise a C&S song and not a MH song. They sold out Rock City on a pretty big UK tour - I'd assume most of their shows sold out. Considering this is a festival where Jimmy Eat World, Funeral For a Friend, The Darkness (After they become irellevent), Deftones Avenged Sevenfold etc have subbed I think they're okay there.

It difficult to compare, cause they're bigger in a mainstream sense but have a less hardcore fanbase who'll most likely go to festivals to see them and stuff. And they don't totally 'fit' at Download, albeit Prodigy and Pendulum paid off in the past. I'd assume their album sales **** on most other Download subs too. (Random example but No More Idols went no.2 and is platinum compared to Diamond Eyes which made no 26 with no certificate.)

This rock crossing Dubstep thing is pretty popular at the moment and looks like it's going to invade both Download and Soni for a few years .Skrillex is comfirmed for Soni, Modestep play Download last year. I hope we see a few more acts like this lower down but that's just my tastes. Either way I've no idea how people would rather watch Motorhead or Slayer go through the motions on a biyearly basis then see booking like this that whether you like them or not, will be different.

Also I don't think Blind Faith is the best example of a 'heavier' C&S song... something a bit more intune with Download is this (Albeit this still aint the best... couldnt find too many good live recordings):

(no idea how to add Youtube videos in.. I used to know :()

EDIT: wow it did itself. Amazing!

I don't really get it myself. After hearing how good Prodigy are live for years, when I finally saw them at Reading in 2009, and realised it was just a couple of berks shouting repetitive nonsense over pre-recorded tracks, I don't really hold out a lot of hope for them or C&S to blow me away. I'm just hoping there's someone decent (ie not Evanescence or Limp Bizkit) on before Slash so I don't have to bother with them.

I was at that T in the Park performance. They were good but I won't be going at Download as given some metal or rock as an alternative and that's where you'll find me. They were third or sub in King Tuts at T which is their third stage. To go to sub on a main stage in a different genre festival astounds me but there you go. Their light show and big screen stuff is good, as are a couple of their songs. They aren't anything like as good as Pendulum or Prodigy and I just don't understand the booking.

I've got absolutely no problem with C&S being booked but their postioning seems mental. Worth remembering that Pendulum (even Prodigy) were given a 'soft' introduction to Download, playing lower spots & progressing up the bill after a positive reaction from the Donington masses. The fact C&S are above Machine Head (rightfully) annoyed a few people but the fact remains that The Prodigy were a last minute, replacement headliner & they apparently wanted C&S below them, Machine Head got offered 2nd stage headliner before Slash but said they'd rather play on main hence why we've got what we've got.
