They were operating a tax avoidance scheme which had already been declared illegal by HMRC. HMRC will 100% win the case, as they have with everyone else who did the exact same thing (as far as I can remember, other clubs have done it, and they've had to cough up).

it's a completely different thing tho.

The scheme that Rangers have been operating has already been thru the courts when others have appealed, and the courts have backed HMRC.

The only way out of this for Rangers would be if the tax officials decided to let them off. After what's happenmed with vodaphone and Goldmans - and the top tax officiual getting basicaklly sacked as a result - there's zero chance.

There's no jury to talk around as there was with 'Arry.

Forgot about paisley, top 6. Alot of glaswegians in the list, must be a gene up there. I dunno better than stein, arguable though. First british team to win euro cup and all that. Was in scotland when he died and total grief up there when he died, even bought the celtic/rangers divide together. Was in a rangers household and they were gutted.

Althoug its arguable paisley got left shanklies great side.

Paisley is in there, no question.

I'm biased of course (yeah I said it!) but I'd have Fergie number 1 of all time, every time.

Great comment from the always entertaining Barry Glendenning on the guardian podcast. Basically saying the handshakes are pointless when they players will be trying to kick each other, cheat and get the other players sent off, as soon as the whistle goes.

The trouble with Arry is as neil says he is starstruck by big names. You can see him bringing scholes back and trying to fit him into a mdifield with gerrard and lampard, who knows he may even try beckham as well. The combination didnt work 5 years ago, it definitely wont work now.

Drop Lampard or Beckham IMO. Gerrard and Scholes should be the two the national side is based around. Once in a generation players that have conveniently popped up together

You mean they should be now, or they should have been previously?? Im not sure its the best idea in 2011. Also I would say lampard has outperfomed both in the big knockout games which england have still generally lost. I think I remember lampard scoring against portugal and the goal that never was against germany. Im struggling to remeber anything that gerrard or scholes have done in a big international knockout match.

I did mean in the past really. I always think Lampard did well personally but not necessarily to the full aid of the team. He played in his favoured role and attacked more whereas others sat/were on the wing. It allowed Lampard to shine but at the expense of better players.

On another topic have just finished reading "a life too short, the biography of robert enke". Tragic story but an amazing book. Probably my 2nd favourite football book after the vialli/marcotti one. Anyone have any reccomendations of decent football books? Note I dont have any interest in your typical dull big name footballer, ghost wrtten biography cash in1

I recommend anything by Simon Kuper, who writes about sports "from an anthropologic perspective".

I particularly liked "Why England Lose: And other curious phenomena explained" - I didn't agree with everything it said, but it certainly gives a very different perspective to the normal stuff and has lots to backup the angle it takes for that.

Thats a really odd sacking, with huddersfield doing well and clark touted for higher jobs. Makes you wonder if some team (?wolves) have tapped him up, however then it would be mad to sack and lose compensation.
