is there a reason why transfer deadline is at the end of august rather than the start of august?

vast majority of leagues dont start until august, seems a bit strange to have the deadline when teams seasons have started.

One that I've been hoping might happen for a while - and it's starting to look like its happening (betting has just gone nuts) - is Sturridge to Liverpool as a part of Miereles the other way. They're a team still in need of a 'proper' goal getter, and I'm not sure that there's many better around.

Not sure quite why Kenny wants Bellend tho, but it appears that he does.

Have to wonder what the terms are for Owen Hargreaves' contract. I'd imagine West Brom would probably have only offered him a pay as you play deal, City must have offered him a lump sum or a fixed wage. That might suggest that he's not as fit as he's made out
